Winter NAMM 2013

Jan 23 Jan 27

NAMM / Anaheim Convention Center
800 West Katella Avenue – Anaheim, CA

We’ve worn out another perfectly good 12 months of history, the lucky among us are a year older, things did not grind to a halt when the Mayan calendar started over - and most of us are back to work after the traditional holidays. It must be time for southern California sunshine and the annual madness of NAMM!

Once again I’ll be the guest of Joe Carducci, providing sorta real-time catch-as-catch-can blog-o-manic, pictographic, and possibly A/V coverage of the Gretsch booth. There are no scheduled artist perfomances this year, so there will be more time (one imagines) to get intimate with new product - and we already know there’s some pretty cool stuff.

That’s not to say there won’t be impromptu performances, or spontaneous interview opportunities. Fun, games, giveaways, last-minute surprises? But of course! I’m going in with no real expectations this time, and beyond being pretty sure it will all revolve around guitars, people, and music, I’m open to anything that may be in store.

In 2013, Gretsch is celebrating 130 years in business by introducing some interesting (and even surprising) new Gretsch guitar models - and even though some of them have planks down the middle, the world STILL hasn’t come to an end.

Repeat customers know how this works. My travel begins early tomorrow morning, and you might see some airplane pics by tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow night, the private Custom Shop party with fabulous Steven Stern one-offs. By Thursday noon or so, we’ll be well into it. You can all follow along at home just by watching for updates to this event thread. Make a bookmark, make some time, and … let’s go Gretschin’ at NAMM!

Comments

  1. On Travelin' Man

…and he’s underway. Godspeed, my brutha.

  2. On Travelin' Man

It’s my annual digital miracle vacation with the best guide in the world from Protty Tours. Boy I’m havin’ fun already.

  3. On Travelin' Man

Ah, cloud pics and aerial photography. It really IS NAMM again. Thanks, the world is in Harmany once more.

  4. On Travelin' Man

Great Pictures!!! Have a great time! (looks like you already are!!)

  5. On Travelin' Man

Proteus, thank you for the coverage of your journey. Thanks also for the Joe Versus the Volcano reference!

I know he can get the job, but can he do the job?”

In your case, Proteus, the answer is clearly, “Yes!”

  6. On Gretsch Gets Busy

Sounds exciting. Stern has been a busy boy. Busy, busy. Closeups of the Roundup, if you please……..

  7. On Travelin' Man

    Fantastic pictures.

    Yours

    Drew

  8. On Gretsch Gets Busy

    Especially the dark-stained Roundup!

  9. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

    Now THAT’s a gorgeous Roundup!

  10. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

    Oh man……………getting the GAS….big time!

  11. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

The Roundup’s card says “relic”, but I see no evidence of fake aging. GOOD!

And gorgeous. The ruddier color is so right.

    Paul/FF909

  12. On Gretsch Gets Busy

Pappy’s going to love that blue Falcon!

But i’m sure he won’t like the price!

  13. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

    Nifty nifty.

  14. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

Love the blue Penguin, would love it even more with Dyna’s!

Price ,i don’t like so much.

  15. On Travelin' Man

Great photos: Peggy did good. Can anyone tell me what the water feature is in the #40s - early #50s?

  16. On Gretsch Gets Busy

I’m guessing Mike was working on the new Guild hollowbody electrics?

  17. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

That blond jet with the cat’s eye is sensational!

  18. On Plankers!

$6175 for the G6139CB? Is that correct? Doesn’t seem like there should be $2000 in difference between the single-cuts and double cuts?

  19. On Gretsch Gets Busy

    Billy Duffy.

I hope Prot reads me mail…

  20. On Plankers!

That’s interesting. I have a 6120N, which is also not a solid plank - seems more like 2 parallel front-to-back braces, but without taking the top off or accessing an X-ray machine, I can’t be sure.

  21. On In the Annivers-o-rarium

Methinks our Proteus suffers from a temporary form of dyslexia that involves color perception. The lefty Annie Junior’s colors are not reversed from those of the right-handed example in the photograph.

    Paul/FF909

  22. On Plankers!

built4, yes - 6175.00 was a typo. Thanks for catching it. Now fixed.

  23. On Billy Duffy: Another Falcon comes home to roost.

I think it’s a very cool Falcon. Hope you can meet Billy indeed! Good luck Prot.

  24. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

Yeah, that Roundup is a beauty.

  25. On Gretsch digs up more roots.

Hey Protty, test that reso uke for me. :)

  26. On Travelin' Man

It’s Lake Mead, just east of Las Vegas, Sandy. The Colorado river feeds it by way of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam stops it up…and ultimately brings our water to SoCal.

  27. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

Is that TVJ bridge pup a Filter in Dyna clothing?

  28. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

Of some sort, yes. More research to be done.

  29. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

I have a tear in my eye. :) I’ve been waiting for this for a decade or more. I was hoping Mike was involved. Thanks!

  30. On Travelin' Man

    Thanks - I’m quite smitten.

  31. On Billy Duffy: Another Falcon comes home to roost.

Vert tasteful falcon, the silver and chrome work really well for me.

  32. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

Yes it does. Numerous of ‘uns here dig’s em too, and love seeing the return. And gadzooks.

  33. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

I wanna tell things about it yeah, but I think there’s another guy who is really meant to speak about this one. You know, I watched it all up close from the side line trying not to say a thing. But I’m not a true protagonist here.

  34. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

    this is GAS heaven!

  35. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

That somebody has already hinted about this methinks…

  36. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

In my secret Walter Mitty moments, I like to think that 0.1% of what I said to Master P, caused this guitar to have two different pickups. It probably ain’t true, but I still find some joy in that. As you alll can see for yourself, two well known Gretsch models had a child. The mystery Pup might not be a mystery after all, but just in disguise…

  37. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

There is a neat story behind this all. I just found it in my archives. I think pretty soon it all will be published. For me, this axe is the focal point of this year.

  38. On Gretsch digs up more roots.

Well, how would you TEST a reso uke? I mean, what do you compare it to?

  39. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

What Proteus said. They’re nice. Real nice. As good as a good Westerly-built unit? No. But easily worthy of the name, and at this price point, you’d be hard-pressed to find a comparable or better guitar. I’ll try to play the rest of them tomorrow.

  40. On Plankers!

I like that the dc Panther has the smaller f-holes of the 90’s era.

  41. On Gretsch digs up more roots.

Looks like Mike Lewis has been busy.

  42. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

Beautiful, beautiful guitar. Pretty much perfect in every way (‘cept the price tag).

    Nice bridge, too.

  43. On Gretsch digs up more roots.

I had a feeling we were getting a “blue pineapple” uke.

    And that’s a good thing.

  44. On Travelin' Man

Ha, no problem. It really is an oasis in a stark but beautiful desert landscape. Especially in August when it’s 120 degrees. That water might be 80 degrees but it feels icy when you jump in.

  45. On Gretsch Gets Busy

Yes, Guitarmaniac, Mike Lewis has been responsible for the new Guild models. And they are getting rave reviews. it is nice to see an old familiar name like Guild rise up from the ashes. Kind of sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

  46. On Gretsch digs up more roots.

Come on Protty! Just play the reso uke then. Play / test, what’s in a word. Make plinky plonky noises with that 6” cone. I wanna know what your impressions are after trying it.

  47. On Billy Duffy: Another Falcon comes home to roost.

Somehow it looks too white - probably the chrome and silver. Still I wouldn’t say no to one :)

  48. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

I wonder if they’d trade that Penguin for my truck? Absolutely stunning!

  49. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

I often wonder why two versions of the same model don’t come in both stains. Why not be able to buy a Manhattan in either nat. or burst with a bigsby and with the same bridge?

  50. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

I also wonder why no one but Godin seems to be interested in anything but a full gloss finish. If Guild is going for a vintage vibe (or GreTscH for that matter), why not make some models with a semi-satin finish? Is it more expensive?

Oh, and I’ve already gushed aplenty in the New Guild thread. These aren’t my first impressions, which were euphoric and appreciative. Just subsequent questions about how and why things are offered and marketed.

  51. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

Wow thanks for filming! Mr. Hunter may play till the end of time; it sounds delicious. Top report.

  52. On Electromatic Love

Aspen green is wonderful. It’s one of Danny Vera’s favorites these days.

  53. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    What did I win?

  54. On Plankers!

I get more compliments on my planked 3140’s tone and playability than any others.

Also, there’s a lot of love for the 6120N in the GDP. I forget who brought one to Nashville last year, but it was a beauty in many ways.

    Plank On, Gretsch!

  55. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

    Oooh…Cats-eye.

If only I didn’t have a mortgage to pay.

  56. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’ll take the Eldridge Cleaver signature model.

When will Gretsch release the Grey Panther for us over 50 guys?

  57. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’ve played the panther and it’s one bad ass guitar. Necks like a cross between a ‘59 Gibson and a ‘59 Country Club. Lawrenceville turne to 10, no, yes no feedback.

  58. On The booth, the whole booth, and nothing but the booth.

Thanks Tim! Good to see your post again.

  59. On A relaxing day at NAMM?

    Good audio scene!

  60. On The booth, the whole booth, and nothing but the booth.

    Tim,

Is that a black Tennessean in picture 2?

  61. On The booth, the whole booth, and nothing but the booth.

PS. Is that a black 6120 with filtertrons also in picture 2?

  62. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

    Dig it. Of course.

  63. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Gasp!

  64. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

I don’t need another jet. But I want this one bad.

  65. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Drool

  66. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Ahhh… the Panther! The long lost brother to my DC Black Falcon! :D

  67. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Did I win?

  68. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Thanks.

  69. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Geoff needs another man-purse to round out his wardrode.

  70. On A relaxing day at NAMM?

    Black Cherry….. YUM!!!!

  71. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

If there’s any extra playin’ ability layin’ around the booth, I’d like most to sign up to win that, please.

  72. On Electromatic Love

Apen Green. That’s a lovely looking guitar!

  73. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

No, Bob, Geoff needs a couple of Valium at the thought of winning this stuff.

By the way, did anyone tell him that this contest is only open to those in the continental United States? Sorry, no Alaska, Hawaii, OR Europe. Perhaps an exception will be made for Canada since they are kind of junior Americans anyway! LOLOL.

  74. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Just get me one of those DuoJet Players work shirts and no one will get hurt. Heck, I’ll give you some answers and you can come up with the questions (be sure to state it in the form of a question or I’ll have to have Alex Trebec disqualify you): 1) Country Club. 2) $120,000, and 3) The older one. Bonus answer: highly-flamed maple, in red.

  75. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Tubwompus, if ever there were a place with a sufficiently-large amount of talent such that some could leak out and be absorbed, it’d be a NAMM Show.

  76. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hey Tub, Baxter just announced the 2013 cowtown roundup. Are you in?

  77. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Only open to Canadians! Keep looking elsewhere!

Now is that 10am TODAY or tomorrow… hrm.

  78. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    That’s a good question.

  79. On A relaxing day at NAMM?

Don’t worry, Tim, we, and I do mean WE, will be there today. Mrs. giffenf is wearing her modded Gretsch t-shirt, perfect for photo ops with passing celebrities. We’ll be headed NAMMward as soon as she’s ready. Get your beauty sleep, but we’ll expect your presence a little earlier in the day today.

  80. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hmm … looks like my employer isn’t going to get my undivided attention today. :)

  81. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Secret Answer -> Metallic Black Cherry

  82. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Flabbered and gasted at all the beautiful stuff in the booth and what is being given away here. Way fun.

  83. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The generosity is unheard of anywhere else. However, I would love to have one of those Gretsch work shirts. It might fool folks into thinking that I work.

  84. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Such valiums can be carried around in a man purse. It would be only fair if I got one with my condition. Please help me out all.

  85. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

Karen Ann Hunter asked me to share her post to Steve’s Facebook page with everyone. Dang!

Unfortunately, Steve is back in hospital in Anaheim. He went into Afib at 7pm last night and doctors are deciding which method will work to get his heart back in rhythm this morning. He will not be at NAMM today but we will see how things are tomorrow or Sunday. We don’t know why this keeps happening, his blood work is all fine so it could be stress related. Karen”

  86. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Curt, the Lawrenceville can’t have been turned up to 10. It would have made the news.

  87. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’ve calculated that there is a 1:753 chance that I’ll win that white Panther. Seems reasonable. Got my books ready, 2G internet pipeline, diapers on against toilet urges, amfetamines (I’m in Holland) & dried survival food + water. Plus special glasses for ultra-fast reading. Bribed some people too. Hotline with Ban Ki Moon; don’t try anything funny y’all.

  88. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’ve made offerings to the Amazon deities for their favor. Don’t try anything or I’ll tell her you said she was fat.

  89. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

I’ve always liked Guilds and Godins. A local performer, Nina Violet plays a vintage Guild, it’s like a scaled down Country Gentleman, with a P90. I freely admit covetting thy neighbor’s guitar. I’m really interested in these new ones.

  90. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

My lips are sealed as regarding to lady-ish fattiness.

  91. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Friday, 25 January

You see, I predict Protty will commence quizzin’ in about three to four hours.

I don’t expect any help from anyone here (the competition!), even though I donate generously to the GDP in many ways…just saying ; )

  104. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

OK, so it works in IE but not in Firefox.

  105. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I was wrong— it doesn’t work in IE either— I submitted a “test” answer of just one word, and it took it. However, when I put in my real answer, it gives me the same crappy “aww nuts” or “403 error” results— doesn’t matter which browser I use.

  106. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    I’m calling “shenanigans”.

  107. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

hmm.. i wonder if a blank panther can fit into a man purse…

  108. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I can’t believe that you all are so scared of me as to lock my answers out with decoy error pages… :p

  109. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

You always win exactly the thing I needed. That has to stop of course.

  110. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Keep it up buddy, and I’ll just have to post my answers here for everyone to see…

  111. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

besides, I haven’t won the special 130th edition Gretsch velcro pedalboard fasteners yet. :-)

  112. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Is the correct answer “42”?

  113. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

No that is the answer to life and the entire Universe.

The special 130th edition Gretsch velcro pedalboard fasteners: I need those too but I haven’t got a pedal board yet.

  114. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Well then, I guess you’ll just have to settle for the Gretsch 130th anniversary mayonnaise dispenser for your french fries…

  115. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

That would be cool. Did you see those Gretsch sink holders made out of goat wool? Awesome!

  116. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Confidentially, THE item to have would be the Gretsch 130th Anniversary bunion pads and styptic powder, but they are exceedingly rare and difficult to get.

  117. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The styptic powder would come in handy for my fret hand.

  118. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Geoff, you’re on a roll, babe. Hilarious.

  119. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

FINALLY! After 20 gazillion attempts, my trivia answer was accepted!

I know it was so late that there’s no way I’ll win, but I think I will at least deserve a Gretsch 130th Anniversary typewriter ribbon for perseverance! ;-)

  120. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Peoples, I think Bax fixed the Giveaway Page. You can pour in brilliant answers straight into those little windows now.

  121. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Yup, it worked for me just now. Cool beans.

  122. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Not that there are any prizes left. I got them all of course.

  123. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Geoff, did they send them in a Gretsch 130th Anniversary tyvek envelope, with genuine Gretsch 130th Anniversary American cardboard?

  124. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    I don’t know yet, because they used a 130th anniversary mailman too…

  125. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Could one fit a man salmon into a man purse? Just a thought.

  126. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I must admit your last comment made me snort coffee onto the keyboard.

  127. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I just found out I didn’t win that man purse: only one was up. I thought all twenty, stupid me. Potshot Vane missed again. Shoot! :-)

  128. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

It probably was Built4speed but then again he was built for speed.

  129. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Geoff is in rare form, well actually he isn’t is he?

  130. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Every time I see the “don’t be a jerk” in the reply box I take it personally.

Good luck, guys. Except Geoff, he has waaay too much swag already.

  131. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Somehow I don’t understand all this jealous talk. Some GDPers are just more equal/great than others. It’s only natural. And amoebae don’t really have a form.

  132. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I thought I was the only one that had “don’t be a jerk” in the typing window.

Hey, winning swag is my hobby and it compensates for the fact I can’t really play yet. So, the totally unfair “No Luck Wish” will be written down in the Tiny Black Book…

  133. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Heck, I never win these things. Good luck ya’ll!

  134. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Did anyone notice the fine print? It said that if you enter more than once, they you will be disqualified…. :o

  135. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I hate the giveaways, mostly because It wouldn’t be right for me to enter, and therefore I can’t win.

  136. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Don’t go. Stay right here.

I’m starting to see a annual pattern. Guitars are always up at Euro bed time. Yawn. This race is fixed, I tell ya. Or there is too much fluorine in my drink.

So you could win an axe. Such Panther is quite a prize.

  137. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Bax, you are just as eligible as Geoffery or any other GDP member!

  138. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Yeah Bax, you must sit in a big dip at our quiz festivities. That is true.

  139. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

    Gorgeous!

  140. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I think we should start a give Baxter stuff thread. I’d donate cash too…

  141. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Maybe Bax can’t avoid seeing too much. Make an alias. Cheat! Maybe “Bax (O) not the same guy really”.

  142. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

Me-freakin-yow! Loves me some cats eyes.

  143. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

    Nice!

  144. On Billy Duffy: Another Falcon comes home to roost.

    Would love to have one!

  145. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’ve just have joined the giveaway, dont tell me its all over!

  146. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    It’s all over.

  147. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Thanks Geoff, good luck for all the guys/gals that have participated. That duo jet shirts are amazing, I guess that i will get one soon!

  148. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

No it was a lie. Come back!

  149. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Geoff, I thought you were going to bed so we can win something…. :o

  150. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Normally people don’t believe me. This time it happened. And the box warned me not to be a jerk.

  151. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Don’t worry Geoff, i have read your message so I am still here…the only problem I have now is that in my country is 00:16 am.

  152. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hey the same here in Holland. I’m so happy I didn’t chase you of for good. Phew! Lesson one: Don’t listen to Geoff, because he’s a jerk.

  153. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    ok

  154. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hey Geoff, don’t bust an artery but you’re really going to like the Paul Pigat interview Proteus just did

  155. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Thanks, I just busted an artery. Can I see/hear it or should I go to bed? I so wanna enjoy that interview but I guess it’s not online yet?

  156. On Roots Porn

In the last picture you actually do look like the guy straight out of “Deliverance”— except with glasses & slightly more hair.

  157. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    No, just go to bed

  158. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I will. Thanks El Bonedadderiddo. It’s the most exciting news of the day, even while I don’t know what the exact story will be. :-) I’m awfully tired and will go dream of people winning my guitars and two great men with glasses talking guitars.

  159. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

awesome. just: wow. Good report too.

  160. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

  162. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Only one question?

  163. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Go to the HAPPENINGS section on the left and click on 2013 NAMM. A dropdown will appear and page down.

  166. On A relaxing day at NAMM?

That Tower Of Power sounds pretty keen.

  167. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

    Fook me, that’s a beauty!

  168. On Roots Porn

Ah good. That’s whut ah wuz a-goin fer.

  169. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Midnight.

Well darn. I intended to run questions at a reasonably regular rate all day, but my NAMMday got away from me (as happens) - and I couldn’t get on Fender’s WiFi at the booth to do updates.

Now that I’m ready to do some adjudicatin’ and postin’, I’m stuck. I see where many of you answered the first posted question, but I can’t find your answers in the admin section behind the scenes - so I can’t decide winners and get the next question going.

I’m waiting for support from Bax, and since it’s mighty late (especially east of here), I doubt I’ll get this going before morning. Which means that the prizes are going to fly thick and fast tomorrow. That may be OK, since more guys will be off for the weekend and can give Geoff Vane some competition.

My apologies for the logistical snafus (or my forgetfulness of the admin procedures, whichever is to blame).

In the meantime, watch for updates on Friday’s doin’s in Gretschland.

  170. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’m watching you Protness. The Pigat interview would be nice.

  171. On NAMM gets away from me.

Oh fantastic!! Tim Proteus master of the Universe: I have no words to express my gratitude, thankfulness, gratefulness and appreciation as in a feeling or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive.

  172. On Custom Shop Feast (Pt 3)

Hey that looks a lot like the Pappy Falcon.

  173. On Custom Shop Feast (Pt 3)

    Woah, quilt top falcon!

  174. On NAMM gets away from me.

    Yes! What Geoffery said!

  175. On NAMM People

This is one of the best parts. Putting faces (and a little insight) to the names! Thank You Tim.

  176. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

yup,the guitar sounds GREAT, it’s so that cool steve hunter is a gretsch fan… point&bow..

Opps. Guess pics are not allowed. Great reporting Tim ! Great to get to meet you, Tavo, Olivia Ann and others.

  180. On NAMM People

Suddenly those name cards look kinda funny when you look at them in the large images.

Is Joao wearing a shirt with tiny Canadian leafs on it?

It’s quite a gathering over there. Boy it must be big fun to meet all these people.

  181. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

If I should win a Panther, I’d be willing to trade with whoever wins the Jet

  182. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

    Gorgeous!

  183. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

Something was missing in the world of guitars. It’s good these are back. Forget marketing and business models, this is just so right.

  184. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Giveaway admin snafu is fixed, yesterday’s results are listed, and a new challenge is up. More coming throughout the day, I PROmise. Good luck to all!

  185. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

Fine playing indeed! Sorry to hear about his health problems, I hope he gets well soon. The guitar sounds really good too.

  186. On Billy Duffy: Another Falcon comes home to roost.

Man I hope you can score an interview with Duffy, that would be great. The Cult was the first band I ever saw live, in 1987. They were LOUD.

  187. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I love this time of year :)

  188. On NAMM People

Very cool, Tim. Some great shots with cool folks. Man, I’d love to hang with Skunk…!!

  189. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Me too,the only thing i don’t like is the time difference !

  190. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

I really liked the dyna neck/Classic bridge set up I had for a while. The middle position sounded awesome.

  191. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

That first sepia photo should definitely be the cover of Paul’s next album!

  192. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

This is a BEAUTIFUL guitar, and Paul played the dickens outta it yesterday in the ‘illegal’ performance at the Gretsch booth. ;-) Lucky man for sure !

  193. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

A murse! A murse! I promise not to harass anyone! Thanks GDP and Gretsch!

  194. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

Imagine sitting on this secret. Then imagine being me, sitting on this secret. :-)

  195. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’m hunting the trivia questions. Where is the thread?

  196. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Found it.

  197. On The Vega Clan

It was a great pleasure to meet Tavo yesterday. The bug is now planted in Joe’s ear about really checking into Tavo’s DynoBrain and Blondshell amp as possible candidates for Gretsch products. Bravo Tavo !

  198. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

It’s pretty close in a lot of ways to what I’ve been dreaming of — which is an updated version of my beloved Clipper. I want a 16”, 1 7/8 body (like the Clipper), wide open, with no sound post (like the Clipper), twin Dearmonds on a tone pot circuit, with Cats-eyes on a Lotus Ivory/platinum gray finish (like that one Clipper in the database). Anyways, it’s just interesting to me how folks coming from such different directions could arrive so nearly the same final point. Other than an inch on the body and the finish, we’re in nearly the same place.

  199. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    I haven’t … :/

  200. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

She’s a beauty for sure. I’m running round like a madman but will be sure to fill u all in when I get back home!!

  201. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

Hey, listen to the interview at 10:30

THERE IS A MADMAN IN HOLLAND

    Who would that be?

Thank you Tim and Paul: I’m proud.

  202. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 2): Synchro Club!

That I was done buying stuff, but this guitar REALLY catches my eye and heart !

  203. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Well I just had the opportunity to re-watch the Brooklyn Walking Tour and still don’t know which floor the guitars were made on. But I did learn that the corporate offices were on the 7th floor… :p

  204. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

Bad GAS. So what does it take for this to be the next signature model to hit the Pro Line?

  205. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

Tim - did you note what amp Paul is using in that recording?

  206. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

    It might take patience.

  207. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

Nevermind. Just read down to the bottom and saw that it was specified as an Excelsior.

  208. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Panther contest is up: you’ll have at least 8 hours to get your answer in, then I’ll draw from all the right answers.

  209. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Hooray!

  210. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I think KuuKOO beat me to the punch for the Panther … Good luck to you, Sir! :)

  211. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Oops, that was jmb9900. :) But KuuKOO beat me to the punch on the DJ T-Shirt.

  212. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

it’s a draw. Good luck to everyone!

  213. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

    NICE!

  215. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I tried… Never one anything in my life haha

  216. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Oh cool the Panther winner is drawn from the stack. I’ve been updating the Giveaway page, but it shows the questions way later today. I thought I totally missed out on the Panther question because of that.

As you all can see, something is wrong. I didn’t win a prize yet. Such Panther would correct it all.

  217. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Sweet, I got me a kick-ass Duo-Jet shirt, and I get to accessorize with that nifty man purse. I just need a panther to bring it all together!

  218. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

I second that nomination to make this a “Pigat Signature” in the Pro Line. Awesome!

    NL

  219. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

Is that a brass tru-arc on the Syncrho?

  220. On The Vega Clan

Really good to see you Tavo… Thanks for so much…Love ya bro.

  221. On The Vega Clan

Mitch, I know Mike Lewis was enjoying the hell out of a Brain at the Nashville Roundup.

And I’m going to have to hit Tavo up for one of those new “Get a brain” T-shirts.

  222. On The Vega Clan

Hit him up fer 2 ! I could use 1 myself. Seriously, I beheld the man’s Gretsch art on his arms. The man lives for Gretsch. Joe and Mike HAVE to appreciate that, and that aside, his products KICK ASS !

  223. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

    Jose, it’s aluminum.

  224. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

Clarification - I think of the Paul Pigat’s Synchro Club (not shown in this update) as the “Synchro,” and IT has an aluminum Tru-Arc. The guitar in this update, with the single catseye soundhole, may also be called Synchro - probably Synchro Jet - and it indeed has brass.

    I confused myself.

  225. On NAMM People

that photo of Joe and Mitch is one of the happiest-looking photos i’ve ever seen in my life. :)

  226. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I could run more challenges tonight, but it’s pretty late on the east coast of the US. What do you guys think? Run’em, or save’m till tomorrow?

  227. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Tomorrow!!

  228. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

For whatever it’s worth, I wouldn’t watch this update for new giveaways. I’d watch the event itself.

  229. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Up to you Tim, but when will I know I’ve won the Panther ? ;-)

  230. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

@jqrm, he’s playing through an Excelsior

  231. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

    Awesome…absolutely awesome!

  232. On Billy Duffy: Another Falcon comes home to roost.

I was so cool meeting Billy at NAMM. What a super nice guy! That new Falcon kicks ass too.

  233. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Panther has been awarded by random drawing of right answers to ForwardLook77! Congratulations - now you just have to pick a color, any color (as long as it’s white or black).

  234. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congrats ForwardLook! So what’s it gonna be? Black or White?! Enjoy..I can’t wait to hear how these sound. And thanks once again Proteus and Joe for taking us with you. Cheers!

  235. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

For some reason I can’t submit anymore. Or is it all over already?

  236. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The Panther has been won - but there are plenty more prizes and another guitar coming tomorrow (or till everything’s been given away).

  237. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Never mind. Got it figured out. I think I was at a wrong page or something.

  238. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Just beware of the difference between quiz updates on this page and the special giveaway section: they were not in sync. So I’ll be lurking here.

That dark cherry axe looks way cool and it would compensate for not winning the Panther, heheh. :-)

Got a time in mind Prot, for the new quiz? Knowing a time would make my life so much easier. Like being able to get of my chair.

Plus are there even more stories to be published? I wanna read it all. Have you asked about the high res Synchro Club photo?

  239. On A Custom Shop Feast (Pt 1)

That penguin is beautiful very nice. wouldn’t have thought matching head stock would look so good.

  240. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    I have not asked.

I’ll start again around 8, 8:30 AM Pacific Time - 6 hours from now or so.

More content is coming, yes. Pretty pictures and more.

But you can get out of your chair.

  241. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Oh cool! My wife will like to see me get up and walk again. My beard has grown to the floor. Be right back!

  242. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

I third that nomination to make this a “Pigat Signature” in the Pro Line.

  243. On The Vega Clan

All those pictures of the Vega clan and no shot of Mrs. Tavo? Dude, you missed out.

  244. On Meet Calico, The Band

I could listen to them all day, beautiful harmony vocals. Melancholy, but easy on the soul.

Yes, Joao’s shirt had little maple leafs on it. Sorry I missed Skunk’s appearance in the booth. He’s one of my heroes (can you say “Ultimate Spinach?”).

  246. On The Vega Clan

    And he’s a fine singer!

  247. On Meet Calico, The Band

    I’ve seen something I like. A lot.

  248. On Meet Calico, The Band

    Love it.

  249. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Damn, I forgot to get out of my chair. I’m still here. Is that healthy?

  250. On The Vega Clan

I did miss out, Frank. I was horribly remiss. Maybe I’ll have another chance.

  251. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’take the black one.. Man, I must be on a lucky streak. I think I am going to pass out.. Thanks everyone

  252. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Good luck and congrats with the new axe. You lucky person I must learn to like.

  253. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Congratulations FL77!

  254. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Thanks

  255. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Congrats on the Panther, FL77!

  256. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Looks like the same old winners as at every NAMM. Not gonna stay glued to this comp in the possibility of hoping to be in favor.

  257. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congratulations, FL77! Play it in good health!

  258. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Joe, several of the contests are based not on being quickest to the answer, but on later drawings from the pool of correct responses.

I’m using RANDOM.org’s random number generator to pick the winners. I’ll be happy to detail the protocol I’m using, if you like.

It has nothing to do with favor!

  259. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

New giveaway challenges will come up over the next couple hours, and - I hope - at least a couple between noon and 6 PM Pacific Time. At that point, the show will be over and I won’t have more content to gather. That will let me finish up most of the giveaways later tonight. The Dark Cherry Metallic Double Jet contest will start around noon, with closing time to be announced.

  260. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congrats to all the winners,i must have been in bed when most of these were going on! Stayed glued to it for 4 hours last night.

  261. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Yeah, Geoffery is making me look like a slacker!

  262. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

True Hermy. I’m at risk of divorce around NAMM time. No time to eat, sleep or whatever… 100% Prize fixation. If I were a genius I’d win way more. My best weapon is perseverance.

  263. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Likewise. Ill be divorced and remarried to my man purse.

  264. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Within an hour a brand new Top Gear will begin. Carefully click through the add thats block your view; just be patient. Look for the real icon to make it full screen and voila: you got live BBC2.

  265. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The start of Top Grear is the start of the Cherry Top quiz. There could be an advantage for you all.

  266. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

There seem to be quite a few models not on display. It looks like there are about 60 guitars on display in the booth, only a couple of which are lefties. The website has 110 models.

  267. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Top Gear started. The new Pagani is out.

  268. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The new Pagani has aerodynamic flaps to keep it on the road when you corner it sliding.

  269. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The Pagani is now the fastest tested production car on the Top Gear track.

  270. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

There is a new Bentley; the fastest ever build. 0 to 60 in 4 seconds: quite fast for a flying cathedral.

  271. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

O wow, Paul and Linda on the update site. Way to go Protty.

Now back to the Bentley: it’s tested on a rally track. Really…

  272. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Why a Bentley needs to accelerate at that rate is quite beyond me. Unless you’re embarrassed to be seen in it, or using it as a getaway vehicle after a bank heist.

  273. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

Can I win Lynda or is that an impolite question?

  274. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hey, if you need a Bentey AND a sportscar, you now can have both in rolled into one.

  275. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    +1 Sandy

  276. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

    Her husband builds coffins….

  277. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

Every once in a while, Lynda releases a free tune on her website. Check it out!

  278. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’m now watching the smallest car in the world and downloading the new Paul and Lynda material.

  279. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

Hmm… I wanna stick to the free tunes then. I’m not in the mood for wearing a wooden jacket yet…

  280. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

What ? I have never one a guitar in these contests Joe Hilo-tron..

  281. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Got that right, FL. You just were mighty fast. Won fair and square. And I didn’t win everything, so that also proves the statement is wrong.

  282. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

Is Lynda holding that Cherry prize axe? It’s an extra reason to win it.

  283. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The guitar winner was chosen with a random number generator from all the names in the ‘pot’. Much like when they shake someone’s guitar pick from out of an f-hole. So being faster had no bearing on it at all.

  284. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Ah yes, it’s totally true. I forgot. It is a quiz-friendly way to do it. And if it were not the case, I’d still say he won it. Everyone can participate and I never seen him win a guitar.

  285. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I have never won a guitar either even tho I try hard…. :p

  286. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

That is a whole bunch of Lynda photos. I can’t blame Prot. It’s just such important material.

  287. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

In the midst of good humour, and extraordinary generosity, it was an unfortunately sour comment, and should just be ignored.

  288. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

What you think of me? I tried until I got all dizzy of sleep attacks, back ache from sitting for days and staring at that brownish GDP screen. And nobody cares, that is the hardest part.

  289. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Ten minutes encounting. Or I’ll need to find a new wife.

  290. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I like sour losers. I’m the sourest myself. I like grumpy; ask Grumpy. (where is he btw) Every year I notice people think of tricks to keep me from winning prizes. Like creating impossible questions or invoking error screens to chase me away. So it’s only fair this cherry axe is handed to me. No?

  291. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

alternate and change the colorstyle between the light and the dark. :p

  292. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Use a tabbed browser to order in food, drink, and eyebaths.

  293. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Haha! Create artificial GDP day and night. Good idea. I feel like a Russian dissident in isolation; it’s just that nobody pumped gasoline into my gut.

No honestly, this is a three day holiday to me and I don’t wanna miss a second.

NAMM 2013 has been VERY good for me. I got mentioned in text and video by the two heroes I admire the most: Protty and Pauly. Some favor I owed someone has been solved and I may even have won a prize. But have you seen those Proteus reports? He’s so back into shape. That alone is great, but all the new things that came out are absolutely brilliant. I just love the NAMM surprises. It’s like NASA finding new planets but then mixed with actual fun.

  294. On Paul Pigat (with Lynda Kay) Live! in the Gretsch Booth

You gotta click these links up here ^

There is cool stuff to be heard and seen.

  295. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I love that new * Metallic Black Cherry*. It would look great on my G5135 Corvette!

  296. On NAMM gets away from me.

Thank you. Wish I could be there so your info is very much appreciated.

  297. On Meet Calico, The Band

Very nice stuff. I think a Gretsch 6 string banjo is in my future.

  298. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

That is the cherry prize ax - or one just like it. Sure looks good, donit?

  299. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

testing to see if the page is updating correctly.

  300. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

It’s like NASA finding new planets but then mixed with actual fun.”

    that’s beautiful.

  301. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Couldn’t keep up with prizes or posts today, as I was gathering new material (and you’ll like it).

Show ends in 15 minutes, and already the fork trucks are rolling through the halls and the plastic is down over the carpet as preparations are made for a quick tear-down.

However, on the GDP, NAMM goes on till the content is up and the prizes awarded.

After the show, here’s what happens. I get back to the hotel as quickly as possible, eat some füds, then settle down to finish up coverage and get serious about regularly scheduled giveaways. We still have the Dark Cherry Metallic Double Jet, the NAMMtop, and more man purses and Jet shirts - as well as a sizable wad of new Get-a-Brain stickers from Tavo.

And other surprises are possible. So stick around!

  302. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Geoff, man, you’re making me blush.

  303. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

    Yeeeeehaw!

  304. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Cool, a shirt. Thanks.

  305. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

Thanks for your tireless service, Tim.

  306. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

That sounded much less suck-up in my head.

  307. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

I like red guitars. Especially dark, metallic shades, like “cherry.” It reminds me of what a great, red-blooded American Proteus is and how he fearlessly braves the madness that is NAMM each year to keep us informed and generously supplied with the highest-quality swag from the near-saint named Joe Carducci. It’s an honor and a privilege to be acquainted with these two fine examples of humanity.

Now THAT’S how you suck up.

  308. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

You forgot dazzling good looks, smiles that would warm the cockles of polar bears, and nice-smelling, too.

  309. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

Someones gonna win a Drum kit?!? :o

  310. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

Dammit, giffenf, that was very good.

  311. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Cool shirt, Kuz. I want one. I got a man-bag. I guess I need to shop for some man-pumps.

  312. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

Giff, you forgot the part about boxloads of chocolates! :p

  313. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

I just feel better know that you at least think about us.

  314. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I guess I need to shop for some man-pumps.

I just about lost all my grape juice through my nose when I read that!

  315. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

Hermitt, providing the chocolate is my department, and those two earn every bite, I’ve witnessed it. You’ll find no bigger Gretsch fanboy than me, I’ve owned 3 6120Ns, after all.

  316. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

My (late) father in law, at Christmas time would get CASES of Sees assorted chocolates to give out to his customers. We used to always score a few boxes. Love the ‘nuts & chews’ the best!

  317. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

Yup, See’s is pretty good. Ironically, their factory is just a few blocks from my house, but I work for a different purveyor of such goodies.

  318. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Sorry Hermitt. I owe you a snootful.

  319. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

That’s OK, I had Rango here to clean up!

  320. On Meet Calico, The Band

The Calico performance was really something. Great harmonies and a very nice demonstration of the roots line of instruments.

  321. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

When I used to live in Calif, we were only about an hour drive from the Jelly Belly factory. Now THAT was a cool place to visit! :D

  322. On NAMM People

My shirt ended up as an homage to Paul Pigat!

I had a great time with all of you Gretsch nuts over there! Thanks a lot, gang.

  323. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The evening’s (or long night’s) prizifyin’ starts now - with some new prizes just listed.

I’ll be listing prize-fights on a regular basis - shooting for every 20 minutes or so. (Unless a bunch of you tell me you’d rather we wait for a few till tomorrow morning, or even later in the week.)

  324. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Man pumps? Isn’t that what cowboy boots are for the most part?

  325. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Well, if I stay up much longer I’ll have to find a divorce lawyer.

  326. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The later the better for Geoff!

  327. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Keep them prizes a comin’ :-)

  328. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

UG, now I know better than that. Your distaff half is awfully supportive of your Gretsch condition!

  329. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

awww, poop. i forgot to add the date for the signature model Double Jet.

  330. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’ve been trying my man salmon pumps. God, I look delicious. I could use a purse to match them too.

  332. On Plankers!

great report! been waiting for a getsch like this for a LONG time!! i hope the v neck spec on the gretsch site is a typo and these actually have a more rounded neck.

  333. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

i’m out…it’s quarter past 12 here and i can’t keep my eyes open. the likelihood of me winning the Jet is kind of infinitesimal anyway. perhaps i’ll be able to enter in the morning. otherwise, good luck, all.

  334. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Bye Mac.

  335. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    WooHoo…. I won a Jet T-shirt! :D

Oh… and the GDP database also says 1996. :)

  336. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congrats Herm. You’re gonna look even more handsome now.

  337. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’m told guys are having trouble posting answers; I have no responses to the last question yet.

It would be frustrating to start the Jet contest tonight. We’ll start it tomorrow morning (mid-morning on the right coast), and give everyone on every continent plenty of time to answer a drawing-format challenge.

Meantime, I’ll wake up Bax and have him kick the database.

  338. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Woo hoo! Man purse! At last, somewhere to keep my excess testosterone!

  339. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Can you tell me a pacific time? And how many hours from now? I’m easily dazzled.

I see no new question btw. Only closed questions.

  340. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Correction - I have ONE response. Knock-knock, has everyone nodded out on me?

  341. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    No luck for me yet.

  342. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The question just showed up on this page. On the other quiz page, I get the 403 error when I tried to answer.

  343. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Night and good luck everyone! Thanks for all the fun Proteus!

  344. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I pressed F5 several times but way after Prot said there were no answers, the window appeared on this page. Bad luck in Holland.

Gretsch developed the Synchromatic-series archtop guitars in the 1939 for display at the New York World’s Fair.

  345. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

I love you all. Let’s have children together.

  346. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Yeah, there is a little bit of lag happening here too.

  347. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I can’t answer, but I know it Calico thingy

  348. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Can’t answer on the ‘Giveaway’ page, and the questions aren’t showing up here yet….

  349. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The same here. I’m going to break the rules:

Six string banjo, Roots Collection New Yorker mandolin, Roots Bobtail resonator.

    BAM!

  350. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Sorry but quizzing this hard made me grumpy. If the window is working this slow over here, I can’t possibly compete. When it appears, I see at least six answers have been submitted already.

  351. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’ve got to take a break. Brb.

  352. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I can’t get past the ‘forbidden’ 403 error on the Giveaway page….

  353. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I even cleared my cookies and browser data and re-signed in…

  354. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

My action was uncalled for. Sorry about that.

  355. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

that’s alright, I can’t find any info on the Gretsch House Telegram either… only where to buy back copies up to 2007.

  356. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

welp… time to turn in for me too… it’s already past 1am and I have to get up in 5 hrs to take the kids to the bus stop in the mornin…

    nite Geoffery.

  357. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Goodnight Hermitt. It was great hanging out with you again. And with all of you other GDP lurkers out there too of course.

I lost myself. I flew of the handle.

Please think of a new question for the CD.

Sorry Prot. I wasn’t sportsman-like at all. Hope you can forget about it.

I’m off to work. Maybe I’ll see some of you in between briefly.

  358. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Yeah, something weird going on. I’m sure Bax is sleeping, as we all should be.

I expect I’ll have a response from Bax in the morning. My flight out is at 10:30 AM Pacific Time tomorrow morning - which will give me till an hour so, 8 - 9, to post a couple (if the contest engine is working) - and get the Jet contest going.

Reconvene in 7 hours or so?

  359. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

what’s the way to win something ?

  360. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    I’ll be patiently waiting!

  361. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’ve won my lot so I’m out for th rest o the contests. Good luck to one and all!

Thanks Proteus for all you do and glad to see you out and about and down to your fightin’ weight,

And thanks to Joe C. for ponying-up all the swag!

  362. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congrats to all of you winners. The wife wanted to go out of town so I missed all of the fun, again. :-(

  363. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

don’t worry Suprdave, there’s still more giveaways coming, including the new double jet.

  364. On Zoomin'

Interesting, to say the least. What tone are his amps aiming for? Are they supposed to be clean amps?

  365. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Is there any of the workshirts left? I haven’t been following close enough this year. I’d settle for the Double Jet if they’re all gone though!

  366. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

It looks like there are 2 Duo Jet work shirts left so don’t worry Ripley, I’ll take the Double Jet!

  367. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

I love the look of those M-75s. I wonder how close they were able to get to the Franz tone? Anybody get to try one?

  368. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

If I already won a duo jet T shirt, then take the second winner and the third. I thought it was a club shirt.

I’m gassin’ for a Club shirt.

  369. On Happy Anniversary to Gretsch

    Ha! Nearly forgot about that.

Happy birthday (birthyear) Gretsch. Have a good one.

  370. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Cool! I will keep my eyes open.

  371. On Hangin' with Steve Hunter: Center-Block Falcon Demo & More

I have to say that I truly felt privileged to be in the room during this interview. Masterful job that you did there, Proteus!

I also had a lovely chat with Steve and Karen upon their return to the hotel after the interview where I was awaiting my own shuttle ride to the airport. During that discussion, I learned that Karen had been playing music in southern Germany at the same time that I was living there and playing music. It is a very small world sometimes!

  372. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

Did I completely miss this? Does the TA model comes with a Bigsby now? That’s nice.

  373. On Zoomin'

Master Zoom could sell amps. Even for stupid amounts of money.

  374. On NAMM People Too

Those last snarly pictures really made the topic. If such thing would exist, too much fun would look like this I guess.

  375. On Happy Anniversary to Gretsch

    Hip hip Hurray!

  376. On Custom Shop Feast (Pt 3)

    Never disappointing to see these.

  377. On The Custom Shop Synchro Club: Now the story can be told.

    Gorgeous Guitar. Well deserved, Paul!

  378. On Meet Calico, The Band

Very nice. They’re easy on the eye as well. Welcome to the world of Gretsch, Ladies.

  379. On Happy Anniversary to Gretsch

Awesome coverage and writing! Great job GDP/FMIC/Proteus everyone else!

  380. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

    How Cool!

  381. On The Maxwells

Those kids sound great! Good to see young’ns doin’ the Gretsch thing!

  382. On Gretsch is more than guitars.

    Man, those look cool!

  383. On NAMM People Too

    Love the group pic!

  384. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I already won my lot, but i decided to try on the duo jet giveaway. If by chance i win the guitar i will be moooooore than happy to pass my other prizes to the fellows after me! Great Big Thanks to Proteus, Joe Carducci, and Tim Baxter!!!. Is the first time in my life that i win at something, i always had bad luck on things like this!!

  385. On The Custom Shop Synchro Jet

    That one is a keeper.

  386. On Happy Anniversary to Gretsch

Well written, Tim. Thanks again for the great coverage from a Gretsch point of view.

  387. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

My Uncle Ronny would look great on that mountainside, but like me he never played either.

  388. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I guess someone didn’t catch Proteus’ statement: ” There’s no point in answering more than once, as it won’t increase your chances.”

  389. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Who’s double then? I can’t find the name…

  390. On Happy Anniversary to Gretsch

Outstanding coverage once again Tim,i salute you sir!

Here’s to another 130 years eh!

  391. On Hangin' with Steve Hunter: Center-Block Falcon Demo & More

    Well, that’s excellent.

  392. On Happy Anniversary to Gretsch

Happy Anni, Gretsch and FMIC/Gretsch collaborative. Thanks for taking us along once again, Tim. Great job!

  393. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

None has about a dozen entries that I can see. Guess he REALLY want’s that guitar eh ? ;-)

  394. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    None shall pass!

  395. On Zoomin'

I believe they’re intended to behave much as classic 50s-60s tube amps: clean up through a decent amount of headroom, and naturally crunchy-compressy as turn the dial.

Don’t want to speak for BZ, but I suspect he designs and builds amps to please his ear and experience. Since he came up in the 50s, playing rockabilly, he put in countless hours playing clean. He does it very well. I’m also pretty sure he likes the response of tubes when they’re cranked, from barely hairy to as driven and compressed as the amp will get.

The 50-watt amp he built for himself to play in X, for instance, has (I’m told) no knobs and one switch - marked “Standby” and “Stand Back. He knows loud!

I believe he’s designed amps with all manner of gain structures: master volume, gain-stage-into-gain-stage, etc. I was fortunate to play through several, from a recording amp smaller than the 12-watt Blue Killer up through a monster head with apocalyptic levels of grind.

But, unless I misremember, the amps he’s been showing over the past several years have been straightforward, single-channel designs. As I recall my minutes with my ears in front of them, all have smooth response and are musically useful from lock to lock. So that’s a given.

What’s magic to me about his boxes, though, and what continues to attract me, is their voicing - their tonal contours. They’re not identical, but there’s something about them all that just tickles my ear - and which sounds unique to my ear.

But one doesn’t want to misrepresent BZ, or put words in his mouth, so I hope he comes into this thread and clears the smoke of my subjectivity with his own level-headed explanations. As both a gifted engineer and musician, he’s in a position to understand what he wants musically, build gear to get it, and then explain it.

  396. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

sascha, looks like the pink, er, Man Salmon model does. Probably making a reassuring statement about masculinity.

  397. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    OK, PAY ATTENTION NOW.

Here’s the pattern: if you go a period or a space over 200 characters in the entry field, anything beyond 200 characters is truncated, and you create a “none” entry.

I assume y’all what’s exceeding the limit (hey, I’ve done it…) are getting an error message, because there are often several identical “nones” in a row, then finally an almost-identical entry edited to be fewer than 200 characters, and it appears with the member’s name.

So until Bax fixes (for Fix baxes it), just don’t go over 200 characters. K?

  398. On The Maxwells

The Maxwell’s rock. Phenomenal how much total talent they have..there must be a ‘rock’ gene.

  399. On Gretsch is more than guitars.

Me likey that black and gold anniversary (?) in photo 5. And the cocktail kit!

  400. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Ahh… and here I thought ‘None’ was an actual member. Thanks for the clarification.

  401. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hey Tim, the new question… are you asking how many UNITS produced, or models ?

  402. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

How many MODELS. We wouldn’t know units. I’ll change the wording to clarify it.

  403. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Well I’ll be Jerry Seinfeld’s uncle Morty, I won a MURSE!!!

    Now that’s styling!

Have to go catch up on all the coverage — wish I had been there!

  404. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

This question took me 2.5 hrs.

  405. Brevity is the soul of wit. And good contest answers.

  406. On The Vega Clan

Hit him up for 3. My old one (the original) is getting faded and worn.

  407. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Thanks Tim. I thought it was kinda like one of those ‘how many jelly beans would it take to fill up 1200 Country Clubs’… our ‘best guess’ closest to the real number won ! Whew.

  408. On Happy Anniversary to Gretsch

GREAT coverage Tim ! Kudos to you and you’re commitment to Excellence, Gretsch and otherwise !

  409. On Paul and Jim Dandy!

Very impressive! You both sounded great. Nice banjo chops.

  410. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

To me, this was the hardest question to get right, I’ve ever seen on this quiz. I learned a lot along the way. I had to dig into 5 sites or so and do a lot of reading.

  411. On Scrambled notes on Sunday at NAMM...

    Well. THAT’ll kill a thread!

  412. On Gretsch is more than guitars.

If I remember the quickly-glimpsed signage, the red kit with the holey cymbals has toured with The Foo Fighters.

Anyone know why the white kit beside the Anniversary has a two-piece kick drum?

  413. On The booth, the whole booth, and nothing but the booth.

Can anyone give me the specs on that seemingly black 6120 in the center blocker wall picture?

    Yours

    Drew

  414. If it’s this one… http://gretschpages.com/media/img/events/special/Gretschdrums_7189_JPG_900x1200_q85.jpg

…It’s probably to show off the way it has been constructed.

  415. On Steve Hunter takes the new doublecut Duo Jet DCM for a spin.

Days-later update on Steve’s health: he was released after the episode of a-fib, and was back at the show on Sunday, where he recorded a great demo of the center-block Falcon for us.

Of course he’ll be checking in with his cardiologist, but all seems well now.

  416. On Zoomin'

Cheers for the insight. I read a bit on his webpage and your old report when you visited his studio and it sounds as if he knows what he’s doing ;-) I like the straight forward, no bs approach the amps seem to have. And as he loves Rockabilly I bet they would be just up my alley soundwise(the soundclips wouldn’t play, so I can only imagine).

  417. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hey…you guys ready for me to pick the guitar winner, or are there any more entries? I have about 80 entries - is that it?

AND LOOK - if you type over 200 characters, I won’t get all your answer, and you’ll probably turn into “none.”

  418. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Let the fun begin.

  419. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    I can’t wait.

  420. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

To Cherish or not to Cherry.

  421. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Who’s present besides P, MC and GV? Show yourselves, dark lurkers.

  422. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    S

  423. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’m hiding. You can’t see me.

  424. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    :D

  425. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Ah Grumps. I really missed you this year. I almost felt flawless. Do something.

  426. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I shall. I’m gonna win a 6128. I’ve been using the computer less lately but I’m back. Here’s Johnny!

  427. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hey UG, what was the verdict on your sparkle jet top?

  428. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Smack. There ya have it. Right in the face and it does feel good. It’s a tradition. And a nice one. You have a favorite jettish something already. I think this one is mine.

  429. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I’m going to let Curt fix it. I’m not messing with it. I like it too much to screw it up. When he’s done with my Hag he’ll fix the Jet.

  430. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

But, Geoff, red is my favorite color. It shall be mine! :)

  431. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Red is your favorite color? Such a girl. Come on.

1:68 How can I not win?

  432. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

It’s as much as the chance for having Down syndrome. I’m not gonna make jokes about that. But y’all know in which direction it could bend in the heat of the battle.

  433. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    You need some decaf coffee.:)

  434. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

It’s also the odds of flopping a straight draw and a pair with two connectors. That sounds more exciting. I could do that. But I don’t know what it is.

  435. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Ahh, but “not a Space Control” is my favourite kind of bridge.

  436. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    DECAF DECAF? CAF, CAFCAF!

  437. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Not a Space Control: are you anti-NASA?

  438. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Sandy, for a moment I thought your avatar showed a naked man with a guitar and a cuppa decaf…

  439. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Grumps, I see red hanging on yer wall. Forget about this one.

  440. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    did i win?

  441. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    I’m here, so no.

  442. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

The chances of you not winning are 67:68.

  443. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

How am I supposed to not be a jerk? Impossible!

  444. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

them’s good odds ) fingers crossed one of us serial lurkers wins….. Thanks for all the work Tims!

  445. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    That was fast, Geoff.

  446. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

WIn win win. I’m on a luck streak. I can smell it. The air is full of luck streakers.

  447. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Geoff, you won a brochure! Congrats!

  448. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I may miss some of this. My basement is about to flood. Good luck!

  449. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Yihaa! This is the first time, I actually knew the answer to a Gretsch Quiz Question. All the others took rediculously fast research.

Thanks Grumps! I really like Billy Duffy (see my fantastic prize cabinet) so I think it’s almost a fair and square win.

But darn, what are the chances of winning three times in a row? I need the Cherry and the Top too… AAAAAH!

  450. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

That one went sailing way over my head.

  451. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Sorry about your basement Grump. I like to irritate you but this ain’t funny. Run. Think of something.

  452. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Prot are you there? I think I won two T-shirts. If so, pass the last one to the third winner. I thought it was a club shirt. Or else just throw it back into the pool.

  453. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Geoff, I’m used to it. Still working on the house and finding new leaks when it rains hard. No emergency. I’ll be back.

  454. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Yikes! Hope everything goes OK, Grumps.

  455. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Put your finger in the dyke. We do it all the time in Holland. You better learn to love it.

  456. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I guy here made his cellar ultra water proof when he built it. Now comes the funny part: a flood made his house float and pop out of the ground…

  457. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

She Sells Sanctuary” is a song by the English rock band The Cult. Billy Duffy, womens vending something, all interconnected.

  458. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    HahaLOL

  459. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Ah… I know they did ‘Fire Woman’, but I only know those two words of it too….. :/

  460. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

This is how I prepare for NAMM Quizzeses. Here is one i made earlier:

    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VJs-6EpXQ1M/UE4dHrBOyII/AAAAAAAAAdE/pjFAh3zoPug/s1600/CultFamTreeLo-4web.png

  461. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Ha, I thought that story was going to end with the first floor flooding into the basement and not being able to get the water out. Floating is even better. Dose crazy dutch.

  462. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

It’s good Proteus isn’t building up the tension beyond unbearable. That would be bad.

I just don’t wan’t to see: Congratulations FluffyBagel56, although we never ever heard of you, please take this great guitar you won accidently.

    I can’t have that.

  463. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

well, I probably don’t need to keep checking in. If I win, I’m sure that I’ll be able to hear Geoff cursing at me on the wind.

  464. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Dell and the Hevill. Still no manly purse. What are my homies gonna say when I don’t win a bag for totin’ round, tsk tsk.

  465. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I heard about you Scott. You may win. Once. Something else.

  466. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

A little slow on that one Geoff. ;p

  467. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Hell yeah. It’s late here. 23:51

I’ve been quizzin 75 hrs or so.

  468. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

If you’ve been quizzing for 75 hours, dare I ask where you’ve been whizzing?

  469. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Next year, they can just give it to whoever ‘wants it the most’ :) Seriously guys, it’s me. I want it the most….

  470. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Quiz Diapers.

  471. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Quizzers the new adult diaper from the makers of Depends.

  472. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Exactly! It’s those. I’m surrounded by pizza boxes and filled diapers.

  473. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I don’t know which sounds worse, the area around your computer, or the thought of a British-made pizza. Do they boil them?

  474. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

No, they just pee over some circular cut newspapers. Presto!

  475. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I don’t think you nor Mac had the wrong answer. So I just had to be awake. Pity.

  476. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I guess it’s Green to recycle beer like that.

  477. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

No it’s just how far English cuisine goes. But I live in Holland. We bake space pizzas. Far out man.

  478. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

they make the pizzas in a dutch oven….

  479. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Is it the kind of pizza that would be illegal in 32 of our states?

  480. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Outrageous slur on British cooking! We take a sponge cake, soak it in vegetable oil, smear some tomato puree on the top, then deep-fry it.

Not that you deserve in on that recipe.

  481. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

I have to quit. Time is up. Wife is angry and me job is waiting in the morning. Bleh.

    Goodbye my friends.

Win me a purse so I can carry my manly things around. Kisses!

  482. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Why don’t the English make computers?

After decades of research, they still can’t find a way to have them leak oil.

My friend and I are convinced the British Empire started in a quest for decent food. ;p

  483. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congratulations FluffyBagel56, although we never ever heard of you, please take this great guitar!

  484. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

He or She won the Jet?

  485. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

No-no. Bad joke. What Geoff didn’t want to hear.

  486. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    hehehe.

  487. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Tim, I was going to post that and decided against it. Glad you did it though. Nice laugh.

  488. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

So until Bax fixes (for Fix baxes it)”

or better yet, Bix will fax it LOL

  489. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

jeez, cauld we get to the inevitable-dissapointment-from-not-winning-the Jet part? all this keeping up hope is exhausting.

  490. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Hey, just won a Duo-Jet T-Shrit ! Previews of coming attractions I hope ! ;-)

  491. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    One more hour, mac.

  492. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Last batch of questions going up now - everything will be over at 10:00 PM ET.

  493. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

woo! Having a lot of fun with this! thanks Proteus, as always.

  512. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

well I’ll try and write a quick post here to express my gratitude, but it’ll have to be short ‘cause my arms are tired from doing cartwheels here at home.

HUGE thank you to Joe, both the Tims and of course to Gretsch - I’m totally stunned.

Aw heck, thanks to ALL of you guys on the GDP for making this place such an enjoyable place to visit. (Hope you all don’t mind that I didn’t put Chet on my Mount Gretschmore - I never thought my answer would see the light of day and would be subject to potential scrutiny!)

    Now to somehow sleep…

  513. WOW! Many Thanks to Fred, Joe, Pro for the outstanding coverage, And Bax for making it all possible. The Turtle will have a place of honor in my music room, history collection. Congrats to all the winners!

  517. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    I can hear it now… “no, Honey.. REALLY… I WON it !!”

  518. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Congrats Itchin For Gretschin!!

  519. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Itchin’, I’m fairly envious. The more I looked at that guitar over 5 days, the more I liked it. Everything about it. (Except the bridge, of course!)

Somehow that deep, morphing, mysterious color is just right on the doublecut shape. It looks both sexy and serious.

You got yourself the newest new Gretsch there - and I’m right pleased for you!

  520. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Thanks guys!

Ha, Mitch - I was going to wake my wife up and do just that, but she’s got a class to go to early in the morning and I didn’t want to disturb her. I hugged the cat instead, who was a good stand in for the moment.

I did put a note on the door, though so she’ll know about it when she leaves in the a.m. - must share the good news!

  521. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Thanks a lot Tim! I must agree with all you said except I didn’t have to look at it for five days to realize that it is just right :)

  522. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

A lot of great swag! Congratulations to all the winners! Sorry you didn’t win the guitar Geoffery. I love that dark black cherry metallic. I might have to take my ‘Vette apart and paint it that color.

  523. On The Maxwells

be sure to catch Wyatt on TV as he will be appearing on the David Letterman show next week the 4th thru the 8th

  524. On Happy Anniversary to Gretsch

And thank you all for coming along for the ride. As always, it’s been a hoot!

  525. On The Maxwells

Those kids are all so sweet in that family, great to see them. What is the story with Wyatt working the whole week on Letterman?! That is a grrreat shot for him.

  526. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congratulations Itchin For Gretschin. Good thing your name isn’t FluffyBagel56. I actually heard of you so that is a big relief. But don’t change your name into FluffyBagel56. Have fun with Cherry and tell us if she tastes like that too.

Man I had such good laughs reading all this again. Prot, I knew you were gonna type that bt I still had to laugh. I’m especially proud of winning with an alternative Peggy. At least it proves I read myself dizzy this NAMM. Not for winning actually. I just like them reports; reading it feels like an adventurous vacation.

Not winning the top is very strange. It will take days to get over that. I found 26 models. I’ll let Bax explain what I did wrong. I still congratulate Rex for winning the top. He ain’t FluffyBagel56 either. If you ever don’t need it, I’ll keep it in my vault for ya.

Don’t feel sorry for me Hermitt. Or else I have to feel sorry you didn’t win too. I had my share of luck. Just the Club shirt…

You all can prepare for photos of Geoff Vane sporting a man purse in the most gallant way. I just know y’all wanna see that.

For now, a deep thank you to Gretsch, GDP members and the community Masters who worked so hard. Thanks Protty, Baxus and Joe.

  527. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Well said, Geoff, and heartilly seconded. This has been great fun.

  528. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Thanks for the competion! Two prizes for me, a calender and a man purse!

(“Man purse”… Are we a bit uncertain of our gender…. Like with pink called “man salmon”)

  529. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Mentioned elsewhere, but if you won, please be sure to go to your profile and be sure your address info is up-to-date. We’re not going to show your street address anywhere, but it makes shipping things a lot easier.

    Thanks

  530. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Sweet! I actually won a tee-shirt. XL please.

  531. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Thanks Geoff Vane for bowing out.

  532. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congratulations Itchin, that is a sweet lookin Jet!

Seems i twas in the land of nod again last night!

Well it looks like i’ll be buying the shirts then,i never thought i’d hear myself say this but ,thank god for ebay! ;o)

Anybody got pics of that pocket calendar ?

  533. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    OK, i fixed my address.

  534. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to Joe, Tim, Bax and Gretsch.

  535. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Congrats Itchin, that’s a sweet looking Jet!!

    Going to update my address…

  536. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

On shirt sizes can I please request 1 large?? I can’t wear an xl.

  537. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

For my T, I’ll fit into an XL just dandy!

  538. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

I’m still holding out for a decent S-200 Thunderbird (complete with kickstand) re-issue.

  539. On Guild Electrics - they're not just nostalgia anymore.

I for one am thrilled that I might be able to reacquire a Guild S-100 Polara. I had an original ‘73 but lost it in a divorce in ‘76.

I looked over the ‘90’s reissues as they were very light, less quality parts and didn’t have the same vibe.

When these show up, my CC will be on FIRE!!!!

  540. On The booth, the whole booth, and nothing but the booth.

Drew - sorry to be so long in responding!

I think that’s a black 6120 w/Filtertrons on the planker wall, yes. Then, three guitars to the right, what has to be a Tennessee Rose. It appears to be shallower than the others and have no binding, and the shot of the whole booth confirms that. Nothing to adorn the headstock, painted on f-holes.

It looks black, but I’m sure it’s the deep red of that model.

  541. On Hangin' with Steve Hunter: Center-Block Falcon Demo & More

great interview , but man that amp is noisy

  542. On Hangin' with Steve Hunter: Center-Block Falcon Demo & More

There were wiring issues in the room.

  543. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Are the T’s all the same size? Smaller the better for me as I’ll give it to my nephew, so S or M if we get a choice. Thanks again, great year for forum swag!

  544. On Masked Men Seize Hotel Ballroom, Yet Take No Hostages!

This is great. The entire thing filmed. Top! I’m watching it all!

  545. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

    Huh?

  546. On Lynda Kay: sparkly in pink!

The Man Salmon Tim Armstrong has a Bigsby - the black one doesn’t. As if the “pink” one were compensating for wearing a color currently (though not historically) associated with femininity.

    See?

  547. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Just wondering who is going to be contacting the winners for addresses, shirt sizes etc ? I’ve won 2 T-shirts and not that I’m in need of them.. just wondering.. as it was indicated ‘you will be contacted shortly… etc” ? No contact to me yet ? Others ?

  548. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Bax and I are working on an efficient mechanism to compile the shirt sizes. Email is probably not it.

(Rather, Bax is working on it. I’m just encouraging him.)

    We haven’t forgotten.

  549. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Cool ! ;-)

  550. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Maybe he can just add the field to our profiles so that we can just put in the shirt size that we normally use. Along with current address info and all, you know.

  551. On The booth, the whole booth, and nothing but the booth.

Thank you Sir. I wonder where that black 6120 is headed?

    Yours

    Drew

  552. On In the Annivers-o-rarium

Oh yeah. I realized that later.

I think I was wishful thinking.

  553. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Just wondering…has anyone received their prizes yet ?

  554. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Oh, no, is this gonna happen again? :-D

I am sure that the prize fulfillment department is hard at work filling these winnings. Maybe even as we speak!

  555. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

    Just shoot me.

  556. On The NAMM 2013 Great Gretschaway Swagfest!

Did the winners ever get contacted or it this still on that big old to-do list? Just a wondering…

You'll need to sign in or register to comment.

    • threadkiller said: "7594 falcon jr and 6022 white falcon rancher".

Congratulations, MitchC and threadkiller. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two Billy Duffy Falcon brochures, we asked: What color were the binding and hardware on Billy Duffy's original Baldwin-era White Falcon? What color are they on his new sig model? Explain.

    • ScottieDawg said: "They were gold on his original, but he says they have faded to nearly silver, therefore he requested non-gold for his sig model.".
    • Itchin For Gretschin said: "the binding used to be gold but wore off over time and is now silver, the same colour as his signature model.".

Congratulations, ScottieDawg and Itchin For Gretschin. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Duo Jet Players Club workshirt, we asked: Other than color, how is the 6128T-DCM Dark Cherry Duo Jet different from the doublecut Duo Jet already in the Pro Collection?

    • ScottieDawg said: "The new Jet has a standard tone control, Adjusto-matic bridge on pinned ebony base, Schaller strap locks, and medium jumbo frets!".

Here I went for the earliest most complete answer, rather than the earliest partial answer.

Congratulations, ScottieDawg. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two Duo Jet T-shirts, we asked: The "Paul Pigat" Custom Shop Synchro Club is not the first blonde spruce-topped Club of the modern era. Explain.

    • MitchC said: "For a brief time Gretsch produced a spruce-topped (natural/blonde) Country Club.".
    • kuzinov (Cousin Steve) said: "No, they were also made in limited numbers starting in 2006".

Congratulations, MitchC and kuzinov (Cousin Steve). You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For four 130th Anniversary Man Purses, we asked: Connect "Peggy" and "Gretsch."

    • MacStevenXIII said: "Peggy Jones, AKA Lady Bo. ".
    • kuzinov (Cousin Steve) said: "Peggy Jones was a member of Bo Diddley's band. There's a Peggy J. Gretsch. I'm pretty sure somebody has played Peggy Sue on one, so there.".
    • Geoff Vane said: "She was the lady next to you on the plane. made photos and told you things.".
    • Kevin F said: "Margaret "Peggy" Gretsch composed a new tune for The Lord's Prayer in 1948, according to the copyright encyclopedia online. May not be the answer you are looking for, but, one I managed to find.... ".

Good answers! I was looking for Lady Bo, and the first two answers got that. But silly ol' Geoff_Vane, answering third, was the first to remember the Peggy who was my row-mate on the flight to NAMM. And he's been so faithful at the Prize Fights, and wants a Murse so very badly - whatsay we give him one? • And if I'm stretching it that far, I can't avoid giving one to RicVic, who found the new-tune-for-the-Lord's-prayer-writin' Peggy Gretsch. Who knew?

Congratulations, MacStevenXIII , kuzinov (Cousin Steve) , Geoff Vane and Kevin F. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two Billy Duffy Falcon brochures, we asked: What does she vend?

    • Geoff Vane said: "Sanctuary".
    • Sandy said: "Sanctuary".

Congratulations, Geoff Vane and Sandy. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Duo Jet Players Club Workshirt, we asked: What's your favorite feature of the Custom Shop Synchro Club and/or Synchro Jet?

    • dmanlow said: "I love the pickup combo and tortoise binding!".

  • For one 2013 NAMM Commemorative GretschTop!, we asked: Since 1953, and not including the new Dark Cherry Metallic, how many guitar models has Gretsch produced wih the 6128 model number?

    • Rex said: "25 Models".

Rex nailed the exact number Bax was looking for - but kcmatt was first to answer with "24 or 25," with both a wiggle factor and more information. So he gets the last Duo Jet Players Club work shirt...

Congratulations, Rex. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one NEW G6128T-DCM Dark Cherry Metallic Duo Jet, we asked: Who belongs on Mt Gretschmore?

    • Itchin For Gretschin said: "1st and 2nd: Billy Duffy and George Harrison for putting “Gretsch” in my vocabulary; 3rd: John Squire, who inspired me to put a Gretsch in my hands; 4th: Brian Setzer who turned me onto rockabilly.".

Lots of great answers, which we'll discuss in a thread. Thanks to all. • Our winner was determined by the random number generator at www.random.org from the list of the complete responses. Congratulations!

Congratulations, Itchin For Gretschin. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two DuoJet T-shirts, we asked: In what year was Gretsch recognized as the the largest musical instrument manufacturer in the US?

    • toddfan said: "1920".
    • Suprdave said: "1920".

NOTE: Geoff Vane originally won this prizefight, but he'd already won a T-shirt, so he asked that I award a shirt to the next would-have-been-a-winner on the list. That's suprdave, so there you go.

Congratulations, toddfan and Suprdave. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one 2013 Gretsch Pocket Calendar, we asked: In what "volume" of publication is the current "House Telegram," the Gretsch company newsletter?

    • ChesterTheThird said: "The Vol. No must be 130.".

Congratulations, ChesterTheThird. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Calico 4-song CD, we asked: Which Roots Collection instruments are played by the ladies of Calico?

    • retroandy said: "New Yorker Mando, Dixie 6 Banjo and a Bobtail Resonator? Cool looking instruments to a tee!".

Congratulations, retroandy. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Duo Jet Players Club workshirt, we asked: Synchromatic - it's a big name in Gretsch history, making a comeback now. When did it first appear on a Grestch product?

    • AndyJ said: "1939".

Congratulations, AndyJ. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two Duo Jet T-shirtss, we asked: Double Jet: has there ever been a Signature Model? Whose? When?

    • Ripley1046 said: "Malcolm Young, released in 1995".
    • Hermitt said: "the 1996 Malcom Young Double Jet.".

Malcolm Young, of course. I have conflicting information as to the year, though. Most of you said 1995 - but the timeline in Fred Gretsch's most recent *House Telegram* newsletter pegs the year as 1996. So I'm taking the first entry for each date.

Congratulations, Ripley1046 and Hermitt. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one 130th Anniversary Man Purse, we asked: When did Gretsch introduce their first single-cutaway guitars? Under what model name?

    • Hi_Fi said: "1951 Electro II".

Congratulations, Hi_Fi. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two Billy Duffy Falcon keepsake brochures, we asked: True or False: Billy Duffy once shared a band with Morrissey.

    • KuuKOO said: "True".
    • Shawn said: "True".

Congratulations, KuuKOO and Shawn. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Duo Jet Players Club Workshirt, we asked: You're designing a new hollow or chambered Gretsch model: maple or spruce top? Briefly, why?

    • kuzinov (Cousin Steve) said: "Maple, I just like the look of the grain.".

That's pretty ironic: I copy all the answers into an Excel worksheet, cull out the "None" errors, give each entry an ordinal number, go to random.org and generate a random number – and the number is...**1**. Which means kuzinov wins (and that's fine with me).

Congratulations, kuzinov (Cousin Steve). You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Duo Jet T-shirt, we asked: Name a famous luthier under whom Stephen Stern apprenticed.

    • dmanlow said: "Jimmy D'Aquisto".

Congratulations, dmanlow. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For six 130th Anniversary Man Purses, we asked: What Gretsch model, still in the line, is not on display in the booth at NAMM?

    • Rex said: "Tennessee Rose with Hilos.".
    • leedeanryan said: "G6196T Country Club".
    • Sandy said: "The absence of a G6128TCG Duo Jet is sadly a familiar sight to me.".
    • GetIt said: "I couldn't spot some of the Signature guitars like the Keith Scott 6120, Bono Falcon or Malcolm Young 6131. Also, it looked like there are no Country Clubs - whoa!!!".
    • redrocker said: "6121 Chet Atkins Solidbody".
    • ChesterTheThird said: "I don't see a Black Falcon with dynasonics an cadillac tail piece.".

Observant eyes noticed that MANY models were missing. There's no message in that, and it wasn't even that the introduction of so many new models took up space. (Notice that guitars on the Planker Wall were hung flat against the panels rather than at an angle - Joe could have packed more in. • The fact is simply that the others were not in stock in the warehouse. That's just how well the line is selling these days!

Congratulations, Rex , leedeanryan , Sandy , GetIt , redrocker and ChesterTheThird. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For three Duo Jet T-shirts, we asked: Besides the new Billy Duffy, name three other signature Falcon models from years past.

    • retroandy said: "Stephen Stills, Chris Cheney, Dave Lee Falcons!".
    • Marcos Atkins said: "Stephen Stills White Falcon Bono Irish Falcon Chris Cheney White Falcon".
    • AndyJ said: "Steven Stills, David Lee, and Bono.".

Congratulations, retroandy , Marcos Atkins and AndyJ. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Duo Jet Players Club work shirt, we asked: Did you get any Roots Collection instruments last year? If there's one on your list, what is it?

    • GetIt said: "Haven't had a chance to hear one yet, but that resonator uke looks titilating.".

Congratulations, GetIt. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two Duo Jet T-shirts, we asked: The 2013 Custom Shop "dark Roundup" isn't the first dark-stained Jet. What was the first?

    • Ratrod said: "I think that would have been the Baldwin era Roc Jet. Available in walnut stain and cherry stain among others.".
    • sascha said: "Some 70s Roc Jets had that walnut stain I think. So this is my answer.".

Congratulations, Ratrod and sascha. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two 130th Anniversary Man Purses, we asked: According to Chet Atkins, who disliked them, who was the only guy who got good tone from Dynasonic pickups?

    • rowbo said: "Duane Eddy".
    • macphisto said: "Duane Eddy".

Congratulations, rowbo and macphisto. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Choice of new White or Black Panther guitar, we asked: Besides the new Black Panther, name at least 3 other current or historical Gretsch guitars with "Black" in their names.

    • ForwardLook77 said: "Black Falcon, Black Penguin, Black Phoenix ".

To make this drawing for a major prize fairer, the first right answer doesn't automatically win: I'll be drawing (via a random number generator) from all the right answers. The drawing won't happen before at least 11:00 PM Pacific time - so you have at least 8 hours to play.

Congratulations, ForwardLook77. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two Duo Jet T-shirts, we asked: What's unique about Gretsch's implementation of center blocks on the new Panthers and Center Block Falcons?

    • BigJimSlade said: "The block is chambered and made of spruce and doesn't have sunk in bridge-mounting studs into the plank. ".
    • Geoff Vane said: "The plank isn’t solid, it’s chambered. It’s spruce, for a livelier and brighter tone that won’t deaden the thing. Perhaps most importantly, Gretsch isn't sinking bridge-mounting studs into the plank. ".

Pretty much all answers nailed three of the four elements I had in mind, which include: spruce for livelier resonance; chambering; no fixed bridge-mount studs; floating bridge extending onto the hollow part of the body. jmb99000 was the first to get three of these, and Geoff Vane (yeah, yeah) was second. • Many answers were truncated at 200 characters, ending in the middles of sentences; it could be that the full versions of those responses would have included all four elements, but I can't tell that.

Congratulations, BigJimSlade and Geoff Vane. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one Duo Jet Players Club work shirt, we asked: On what floor of the Gretsch building in Brooklyn were guitars made?

    • Marcos Atkins said: "Guitars were made on two floors: on ninth flor they assembled the guitars, and on seventh floor was the wood shop and the finishing room (according to Dan Duffy)".

I was thinking 7th Floor, which is what I believe Fred told us during the walking tour. But there's awfully good evidence for the 9th as well, so I'm taking the first answer that incorporates both answers.

Congratulations, Marcos Atkins. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two 130th Anniversary Man Purses, we asked: How many new Roots models are being introduced at NAMM2013? List them.

    • KuuKOO said: "G9420 Alligator Biscuit Roundneck G9500 Jim Dandy flattop G9101 NYC Camp Uke G9112 Resonator Ukelele G9126 guitar Ukelele ".
    • Sunshine said: "Five. - Gretsch G9500 "JIM DANDY™" 24" FLAT TOP - Gretsch G9101 "NYC" Camp Uke - Gretsch G9240 "Alligator" Round Neck - Gretsch G9112 Resonator-Ukulele - Gretsch G926 Guitar-Ukulele (A to A)".

    Ooh, you guys are good!

Congratulations, KuuKOO and Sunshine. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For two Duo Jet T-shirts, we asked: True or False: the Duo Jet is the best guitar in the known universe. If Yes, which Jet? If not, why not? Defend your answer.

    • built4speed said: "Yes, it is. 6128T-DSV. Cliff Gallup agrees.".
    • MacStevenXIII said: "False. My 6120RHH is the best know guitar in the universe! ".

Lots of good answers, and it was hard to pick two. I'd hoped someone would state the self-evident truth that of course any of Dyna versions is truly the best of the best. But as no one made that distinction, I took built-for-speed's answer as it was first. • NJBob DID mention Dynasonics in his defense of the 6129T-1957 ("best with the classic Dyna sound, V-cut bigsby, light weight and neck that makes me better than I am"), but again, he doesn't say that ALL Dyna Jets are the best guitar in the known universe, so his stronger argument for his guitar doesn't outweigh built4speed's quickness-on-the-draw in getting it early with an acceptable answer. • Admin said "All of them. It's self-evident" - which is a darn good answer, but who is Admin, and can he win? That's the question. • Since I'd taken one TRUE answer, I thought I should be fair and take a FALSE answer (I don't REALLY believe my Dyna bias should hold for everyone, even if I AM right), and MacSteven was the earliest to disagree, giving the nod to his Reverend Horton Heat. And you might think he wouldn't even wear a Duo Jet T-shirt, so it's being wasted. But I know that once he wears one over his heart, he'll have to have one in his hands. It's a plot, it's all a dirty plot.

Congratulations, built4speed and MacStevenXIII. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one 130th Anniversary Man Purse, we asked: The 130th Anni Jr has ML bracing. What is it, and what does "ML" stand for? Bonus: on what model was it first used?

    • Bob Howard said: "It's like trestle bracing but with one upright, slightly shorter and made of one piece of wood. The ML stands for Masao Terada and Mike Lewis. Was it on the 125th Annie?".

This turned out to be surprisingly hard - nearly all answers were responsive to two of the three queries (generally that Masao Terada and Mike Lewis designed ML bracing, and that it first appeared on the 125th Annie), but only Bob explained how ML bracing differs from full trestles. Great work!

Congratulations, Bob Howard. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.

  • For one 130th Anniversary Man Purse, we asked: During the NAMM2012 Triv-a-way, who came closest to predicting the 130th Anniversary Jr color scheme?

    • built4speed said: "68warbird, who said: metallic copper and black two- tone".
    • 68warbird said: "I think I came pretty close with my suggestion of "metallic copper and black." I must say, the combo Joe and the team chose looks awesome. ".

The team did much better on this question, with most correctly answering that 68warbird came closest with copper and black. And I know I said there would be just one prize on this one, but we can probably agree that warbird - who answered that he thought he was close - deserves a Man Purse for his proximate prognostication.

Congratulations, built4speed and 68warbird. You will be contacted shortly for mailing info.
