The story is not short but has to be in the top 2 for sentimental reasons. So here we go. When this 6190 first ended up in a music store in Edmonton she was purchased by my grandmother to give to my grandfather for his birthday. It was gently played for years until she was being played by mother who was pregnant with me....I was able to hear this guitar at a very early age! But it would be another 42 years before I would hear my mother play it again...... In Sept of 1965 i was born and adopted by a caring and loving family in Edmonton. While by no means was it a "professional musical household" music was encouraged and lessons were always available.Drums were my first choice until I started playing guitar in my 30's. In 2008 i was living 1000 miles away from my hometown on Vancouver island where and when I would meet my birth mother Susan. We had much in common and guitar was one of them. She had played all of her life and my birth-father was also a very accomplished guitarist. During my first meeting with Susan she asked what my dream guitar was. I told her it was an archtop and she said wait here. A minute later she was back with a very old looking guitar case...opens it and carefully pulls out this amazing 1958 6190 Streamliner....and says," I used to play this for you when I was pregnant with you...and have been saving for you until we met...want to give it a try! So yes I could go on for hours about the amazing relationships I have built with my new family....but hopefully the picture I have attached says the thousand words for me!
PS...the Gretsch is amazing, plays like melted butter and is just too sexy!
