My first encounter with the ’55 Chet Atkins guitar was in Gretsch’s “Guitars For Moderns” catalog in 1955. I think the only guitars in that catalog that did NOT stir up fantasies were the Chet Atkins models, with the western appointments, even though I was an avid Chet Atkins fan. But as a growing "man" of 13 living in Philadelphia where we had Rock & Roll and Bandstand, I could NOT get into that “country” stuff.
Fast forward 6+ decades, and this guitar moved itself to the top of my bucket list!
