Acquired 2nd hand, this guitar needed TLC : she came without case, with a crack in the headstock, the original pickguard was lost, the fretwire was worn...
After a careful restoration in Art-Deco style, including left-hand conversion, acetate custom-made pickguard, along with hardware change from gold to chrome, this G400 thanks me by sounding and looking great !
Interesting! I had no idea that they made a left-hand version of this.
This is not a “regular lefty” model, nor a special order, but a custom conversion to LH. I don’t know if the G400 had been factory-issued in LH.
Beautiful. I’ve seen a few of these being converted to lefty. With the symmetrical body it is one of the rare chances to easily make a big-bodied lefty Gretsch with the teardrop (cat-eye) soundholes. I’d love to have one! The bridge and tailpiece tell about the righty origin.
I suppose this model with a pickup, instead of 400, is marked as 6040, right?
