Modifications

Check out Gretchen, my 5120. Modifications include new Gretch Filter'trons, TV Jones clear spacers, pinned & shaped bridge saddle, Compton Stainless bridge, and a Bigsby B7 with a Chet Atkins arm. Electronics got a little work over with a treble bleed, orange caps and a push-pull out-of phase mod (it actually sounds cool on a hollow body . . . really).
The biggest bang for the buck was the B7; the extra tensioner actually increases the break angle of the strings over the nut, thus eliminating a lot of behind the nut sympathetic string vibration (there's still enough). Also, I replaced the cheap white metal tube that connected the tremolo tailpiece to the anchor plate (using the shaft of a similarly sized old drill bit). With the solid connection, the 2 screws, the pinned bridge, new compton bridge, and a little nut shaping (with graphite lube), she definitely stays in tune.
