The story goes that this guitar was purchased by the original owner in the Kalamazoo, Michigan area in 1958. The original owner bought it as a first guitar with the intention of learning to play. When the original owner passed away in 2012, the guitar was found underneath a bed, in it's case-- where it had laid for many years. The guitar was obtained by a relative who worked for a Nashville radio station. The relative then sold it to the current owner.
The guitar is believed to be 100% original (excluding strings). There is no evidence of any parts replacement or repair. Also, in the guitar's case was found the original Gretsch "OK" Card signed by Dan Duffy.
This is one of the cleanest original examples of a New Yorker around. There is virtually no fret or finish wear (although there is some very minor lacquer checking due to age), the neck is straight and shows no signs of separation. There is absolutely no rotting of binding, celluloid or plastic anywhere on the instrument. Also, there is no chrome pitting or rust to be seen.
