I got this guitar brand new in 1992, at ACE Music in Santa Monica, CA. If I recall, they were the only Gretsch dealer on the West Coast at the time. I remember the two brothers Hank and Ernie, one was super nice, the other one also nice but a bit cranky. I worked 9 months of overtime to save up enough dough to buy it. I chose this model because, well, it was the least expensive hollow body Gretsch at that time. I built up enough credit on account, they ordered it and I had it in a few weeks. It came with a branded case, documentation, hang tags, it's certificate of authenticity and a signed letter by Dinah Gretsch, addressed directly to me, which was a nice touch.

I've played this guitar in many bands and a bunch of records, including 2 Rollin' Rock releases with DRAGSTRIP 77, 5 with Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers, and a bit of session work. It's been around the world, and bounced off the back of the pickup truck at an offramp on I-15 one time. Duane Eddy signed the back of the headstock for me, right under the ACE Music sticker that's still attached. This guitar is not fancy, vintage, or highly collectible, but a real working instrument with a ton of fun stories. "Big Red" helped feed me and pay the rent on many occasions, by doing what she does best. And I love her for it.
