Last week I was recording my new album with Pete Curry and Richard d'Andrea in Pete's studio in sunny (well, it was raining...) California. I had a lot of fun... I made this short/strange/dark/lo-fi movie showing the studio around while Pete was starting the mix in one song. I hope you enjoy: http://www.guitarbizarre.com/pics/L.A_session.mov

Joao- You linked to the Monga Records page which only had one of your songs on it, so I went to your page and found them there. Great tunes, I will definitely be getting this CD!
For everyone else, these songs are definitely worth a listen to. Joao on Myspace

Joao, this is great stuff again. Haven't heard all the tracks yet, but everything so far sounds even stronger than the last album (which I liked very much). More focused and punchier, and could it be you're playing with more passion and confidence?
Great playing on fine songs, what more should we want? I put this stuff up there with Los Straits as superb modern surf/rock instrumentalism - only you've got more of the Latin/Chet thing going. You mos' defnitly da man.
Now if we can slow you down, space you out, and get some Esquivel vibe in there...that'll be a package!
Can't wait to order the new CD – and I hope it sells billllions.
Am I hearing the Jazzmaster on most of the fast stuff, and maybe the Dyna Club on the slower material?
What pickups in your JM?

KCMatt: Thanks, man! Monga Records is my label in Brazil. I think I'll start the same label here in the US too.
Proteus: This "The L.A Sessions" is like the opposite that I was doing on the "Guitar Bizarre" series. Instead of layers and overdubs I did this live-trio with "in your face" guitar and songs with busy lines and melodies. I think that's the point: A band playing together. There are some ballads (or "slow ones"...) and other stuff. We recorded a funny version of "Tico-Tico" also.
I'm using Seymour Duncans "vintage" (the regular ones) on my Jazzmaster. I really enjoyed the sound on the record. On "The Dog and The Squirell" I used Pete's Tele. In other two songs (not at myspace yet) I played Pete's Jaguar and his Jazzmaster (all of them with flatwounds).
I hope to sell billinos too!

Joao, I would have watched the video, but I don't have Quicktime installed and the .mov extension won't play. I don't want quicktime either, so I won't be able to listen to it. Can you upload an mp3 of the song? Thanks.

Hey Wenzel- the video is interesting though not a must see, but the music on his myspace page is a must-listen (IMHO).

Oh my god you're actually using tape!!!!!!!!!!
A Studer no less. How long it is since I heard the glorious sound of a multitrack tape machine being rewound.
Must go now and fondle my alignment screwdriver and dream about happier times

Lovely, lovely playing. Great sinewy sound. Of course, no comment can compare to the favours of the Empress Ultra Violet, on your myspace page. That may be all the approval any fellow requires.

Hey guys, The CD will be ready (I hope) in a month. I'm working on the cover art and trying to get "Tico Tico" from the publisher. I'll let you know, for sure. I started playing here in DC with tuba and drums. I hope to be able to tour soon.
Proteus, I don't know Empress, but I do know a lot of strange (in a good way) people out there! Cheers!

So, the Cd is here. There will be a release party at the Velvet Lounge in Washington DC (October 8th) and there must be something in NYC after that. I'll be moving to Brooklyn at the end of November so things must be a little busier (I hope) in there. Anyway, you can listen (and buy!) the CD at CD Baby or you can listen (and buy!) at the Itunes Store I hope you'll enjoy!
