Photograph...a song of lost youth

  1. A few weeks back I was looking at a photo of me as a 19 yr old, full of life and expectancy for the future. I could barely recognize the boy I used to be in the picture but I remember the anticipation of youth, the fun I had, and the life that would follow. And as I've aged so has the photo, faded and a bit worn at the edges. And so I wrote this song, as a memoir and as a celebration too.

It starts off slow and picks up during the song so stick with it and you may like it, I hope you do :)

  2. I certainly like it. Kinda New Wave-y, but very cool. Love the chaotic horns.

  3. I like it! Thanks!

  4. Cool. Made for a nice listen , this morning.

  5. Thanks guys, it may not be to everyones taste here but thanks for listening if you did :)

  6. Reminds me of Pink Floyd.

Speed it up a little and add some more stuff to it and you have a winner.

  7. I liked that one, Taffy. I liked that it had different feels and textures and tempos at different points throughout the song. Good work.

  8. Cheers Flathead thanks for the input. Ric glad you liked it. I appreciate the comments from all you guys, it's encouraging that I'm not wasting my time doing this stuff :)

  9. You put a lot of work and a lot of thought into that one, Taffy. Very enjoyable.

  10. "And as I've aged so has the photo, faded and a bit worn at the edges."

Yea, but at least the photo still has all it's hair and teeth.

  11. Again an excellent song from you Paul. I truly admire your talent.

  12. Thanks Richard/Bear. I appreciate that it probably isn't your kind of thing but your remarks always mean a lot to me.

Caughtintheact, yes there are definitely more teeth and hair in the photo and it doesn't show the gut either :)

  13. Yep, Taffy, lifes a bitch and then you die, but on the subject of hair - while I may have less in the places that I'd like it, I think I've got more than ever, it's just that it's growing outta places I wouldn't have thought possible when I was younger!

  14. That was outstanding. A lot of thought and effort and it paid off in to a very original piece that sticks with you. I will now be humming "My Photograph" the rest of the day!!!:D

  15. Thanks Mark I appreciate the positive feedback and glad you liked it :)

  16. Of your own compositions and songs that you've posted, I like this one the best, it has lots of things happening and really held my attention - I've listened to it a lot over the last few days :)

  17. Thanks Neil mate, I appreciate that a lot :)

  18. By coincidence, about a month ago I dug out a photograph of me at age 19. The idea was to show my current friends here in Norfolk that, once, I was a very slim, fairly good looking guy rather than the bespecced, balding, overweight, fat, slob I am today!

I can still remember the day the pic was taken: a humorous take on the stupidity of the day - or so I thought. But I, too, was looking forward, not quite certain to what but something better for sure.

Taffy, I typed that listening to your song and it fitted the mood perfectly. Nostalgic but still rocking. I think you just made a masterpiece.

  19. I like that a bunch! A real amalgam of styles. Well done

  20. Richard, Mark, i'm just happy to make guys like you and all the others who have commented smile if only for a few minutes, makes it all worthwhile :D
