I have a vintage gretsch. The story goes that my husband as a boy in 1965 bought this from his barber with paper route money. We have always belived it to be a 1953 tennessee rose.
the serial # can not be read, the model # is 6120. My husband is no longer with us so there is no need for me to hold on to this. I can't seem to upload a pictue is there a trick to this?
Would someone give guidance on my Gretsch?

dustyrds40, here is how to post photographs on the GDP:
HOW TO POST PICTURES
Find a free picture hosting service like photobucket.
Set up an account at your site of choice and load your photos there (very simple).
Once your photo is loaded, click on “Direct Link” to highlight it and then hit control and “c” at the same time.
Come back to GDP and click the add photo button.
Put your cursor in the top box, hold down the control and “v” key at the same time.
Click okay and your picture will be loaded and shown in your post.
(Acknowledgments to Bear.)
If the label inside the f-hole on the face of the guitar says G6120, then it would not be a Tennessean (which is what it would have been called in the mid-1960's). Your photographs will aid immensely, however, in getting the guitar identified.

Congrats, you have a very desirable guitar! It is a 1960/61 Chet Atkins 6120 Hollowbody. I can be more exacting on the vintage if you provide the serial number.

Great looking guitar there, dustyrds40! GDP'ers love photos of Gretsch guitars (we call it "Gretsch porn"), so load up the thread with as many photos of the guitar as you can reasonably take and upload.
Congratulations on a great instrument.

Dusty... if you measure the depth of the guitar, that will also indicate the vintage. It should be either 2.5" or 2.25" deep.

The fact that the serial number has been scratched out will bother some potential buyers. I try to shy away from guitars without numbers myself, but for folks that just want to play the guitar and not worry about reselling it at a profit, no problem. Looks nice dustyrds40!

guitarcapo, you almost made me lose my dentures (not that I have any!). Mid-five figures is like $50,000. $5,000 or $6,000 has only four figures.

I really don't know about the serial # being scratched out? I can only say that boys will be boys my husband bought this when he was 12 years old and now i can't ask him how or why?

You may also want to look on top of the headstock, the number may be "carved" on there.

Dusty... your guitar is a 1960 model year 6120.
Personally... I would prefer the label to be missing, than have a scratched out serial number. Just no good reason for that to happen.

true, many dubious things come to mind on a scratched out serial number, that being said, I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I could afford it. Any chance of more pics? the fretboard, the neck, or neck joint..etc? Your going to have to be careful on this, the missing number is gonna make it very easy for resellers to talk you down ALOT. Dont fall for it. This is vintage and is worth a decent amout. Any offers you get, come here and let us know, theres bound to be people, me included on how much you'll sell it for.

Also the fact that the thumbwheel adjusters are missing under the bridge may suggest a shallow neck angle.
