What kind do I have

  1. I purchased a Gretsch guitar at an Estate sale. It looked like it was old so I paid $125.00 with case. I have tried to find out what model it is. I think its a double cutaway but not sure. All I could find is a #D169120 at the base. How can I find the model and when it was made?

  2. Single cutaway Tennessean. Looks original except for bridge & tuning machines.

$125 is the deal of the century. Way to go.

  3. 125 DOLLARS??????

    $%^$%^&*%^&($^&#%^@$^#%^&^^&

    Congratulations.

  4. Good call! A buck and a quarter? Damn! That's a deal.

  5. Congrats. I'll give you $250 ;-)

  6. Whoa. Good catch, jaxon.

    Really good catch.

    Highlight reel stuff.8-)

Don't do it, he's trying to low ball you and rip you off. I'LL give you $251. ;-) Seriously, though, that's one helluva a catch!

  10. what year is it?

  11. how can I tell the year of my gretsch?

  12. it's a joke of course

  13. hoax of course. This guy arrived on the forum with this gem found on an estate for 125 dollars.

  14. The serial number can pretty well nail down the year. It is probably located in the top end of the headstock. In the attached picture in the very lower edge you should be able to make out an example of such a serial number.

Another way to date it is to find the date code(s) on the pots. But that would involve, among other things, removing the access cover on the back.

  15. "All I could find is a #D169120 at the base." the base of what?

  16. The base of the Bigsby. Anyway, that may well be a 6113 rather than a 6119 Tennessean. It's identical to a 6113 I used to own, right down to that goofy adjustable bridge. The tuners are replaced, but looks otherwise original. They should be plastic buttoned Waverly's. When you post the serial number, I can compare it to my old one. That might confirm it as a 6113 if it's from the same batch.

  17. hoax of course. This guy arrived on the forum with this gem found on an estate for 125 dollars.

This seems likely a joke / hoax to me too. :D :D People don't forget when they pay out three weeks salary for a guitar.

Remember the Corvette for only $500 because a guy died in it and they can't get the smell out? :D :D :D

  18. I want to thank the people that gave me positive feedback. This was not a hoax or a way to play a childish game. I was informed by Guitar center to go to this website and I might get some help, sorry if some of you think I'm a joke!

Of course, you're the same guy who says you can't play Santana tunes on a Gretsch. Perhaps you should open your mind to more possibilities in life, my friend.

Let me ask you this - if the guy actually did buy the guitar from an old lady for $125, how long should he be on the forum before mentioning it, in your opinion? Wouldn't such an event be a good reason to join the forum in the first place?

  20. And welcome aboard, jaxon. Hope you stick around and participate. You'll find it to be friendly & informative, in the overwhelming majority of cases.

  21. I want to thank the positive feedback that helped me. Sorry for people that think this was a hoax, it wasn't! Guitar center gave me this website when I contacted them. I have never been on this site and was greatful to find it. Most of you jumped to help, so thank you. Its not a corvette story, but I was extatic when I found it. I have no clue the worth so I wanted to look it up.... Thanx

  22. sorry I posted twice, wanted to get my point across!

  23. It's a Tennessean-- it probably doesn't have a rear access cover. In these cases, the label may be located under the neck pickup.

    Ding ding ding, winner.

  25. Well Didier, if it is a joke, then the joke is on us. If not ,then good for Jaxon.

    Welcome to the GDP.
