If it wasn't a Monkees model, the finish checking and general deterioration probably wouldn't bother me much.
But since I remember so vividly when The Monkees appeared – and I was smack in the middle of the target demographic, and liked them (justified, I think, by how the music has stood the test of time) – AND I was acutely aware they were playing Gretsch ... well, it just reminds me how old I am.
I remember The Monkees as young and fresh and shiny, see. Now this particular guitar has fared no better than the boys themselves.
Or than me.
Somehow, a minty or closet-classic level old guitar gives me hope. Like maybe I too have held up better than I might have. A well-preserved newish-looking Monkees model would appeal to me.
But this one? Relics all: time has had its way with us, boys and bright new guitars.
Y'know what I mean.
