viking pickups

  1. Thinking about buying a viking project guitar and I was wondering something. Since it need everything in the way of hardware, do they make modern replacement parts for this 1970 Viking? Will TV jones pickups fit without any modification? thanks

  2. TV makes SuperTrons and they should fit with no problems.

  3. what do you guys think of this on ebay? I am a newbie but love restoring things however a guitar is something I have never done. was thinking of trying it on this one but putting newer parts on it. What is your opinion of that approach and what price is this guitar worth? your help is appreciated.

  4. oh forgot to put the link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIN...

  5. good price for a project...

  6. If it stays at that price. The hardware is the easy part. There are modern drop-in replacements for everything (except maybe the tuners). Fixing the binding rot will be a heck of a challenge. The only real fix is to remove and replace it.

  7. Don't forget about that binding rot. That's really gonna cost you to take care of.

  8. Is this one of the Gretsch models with slanted frets? I know they exist I've just never seen one.

  9. Thanks for the good words. Help me price the binding rot replacement. Also, what it worth when finished? All your advice is appreciated.

  10. Also, how hard would it be to put a bigsby on it?

  11. don't know about the slanted frets. is that something special?

  12. It's got the slanted frets. As far as binding replacement, that'd be quite the investment I believe.

  13. Binding replacement, $500-$800, you'll never recover that cost so you need to want to keep it once it's finished.

  14. whats with the slanted frets?

  15. I quote "offset postion dots at the top of the fingerboard signify the 'T Zone Tempered treble' angled frets, meant to offer improved intonation". I got that info from Tony Bacon & Paul Day's The Gretsch Book. I kind of get it but has/does anyone play one, what's it like? I seem to remember that the guy from Primal Scream had a White Falcon like that.
