Why would anyone let a guitar deteriorate to this condition??? I know that older pickguard material is often self-destructive by the nature of its composition, but come on, this is ridiculous.
This would make an excellent restoration project for the truly adventurous.

Dude, I've seen others like that... there ain't nothin' you can do about it. That has little to do with maintenance or neglect. Thanks for the tip. This one eluded my radar.
it's the corrosion on the metal parts that really makes my heart sink.
That guitar has just been in the case too long, the celluloid pickguard started "rotting", and the gas it released has tarnished that front pickup in a fairly typical way.
Not really neglect or abuse IMO, just storage.
Looks like easy fixes to me...pickguard and pickups, pots as required.
Am I missing something?

Ugh, that looks pretty gross but fixable. They should start remaking the Crovettes in the burst pattern. How cool would that be.

after a new pickguard, new wiring harness and pickups and your're playing a vintage Gretsch...if this stays low I may keep my eye on it...
bridge pickup may even be fine, i sure like that Gretsch branded bigsby...
If I had the extra cash I'd be buying that one for $350.00!!!
Couldn't they put some newspapers in that blue one before they spray painted it?
what year would you place this at? is that 4 x 2 headstock common??
yeah- looks like new wiring, pickups and pots would get this one well on the way to recovery. Who knows what kind of shape the neck is in? Thats a big question for me. Overall, the guitar looks ok. Just in need of a tiny bit of TLC.
