Hi, I bought a Gretsch Roc Jet about a year ago, I found it in the corner of a pawnshop and asked the owner how much he wanted for it. He said "$150.0 sounds fair." So I bought it right there on the spot. Ive talked to people about how old it is and most people say they think it is a 72 or 73. Anyways I need to put a new hanger bolt for the strap knob on and I ran into a problem. Then end of the hanger bolt is Suck! There's no phillips head left on it I think it broke off, how the crap can I get that thing out of there?
Question about rocjet.

Wrap some cloth around it (to protect the threads) and use some some pliers. There are also drill bits made to take out screws with broken-off heads. They drill in, then pull it out in reverse.

If the phillips slot is stripped out, there is no need to worry about protecting the threads. You're going to have to replace the hanger bolt anyway. If there is enough protruding to get a small pair of vise-grip pliers on it, I would try that. If the bolt is broken off below the surface of the wood, you will probably have to use a screw extractor or drill it out.

Wait, this isn't a regular Gretsch strap knob, is it? A phillips head screw involved sounds suspiciously like a "regular" strap knob. If you can figure out how to post a pic, that would help. If it is the regular kind, like on a Gibson, and the screw is stripped, I would consider drilling the head off and removing the remainder with pliers. I must admit I'm not quite sure what you're trying to describe.

ever consider just leaving it there and putting in new one next to the old one?

I think he's talking about regular Gretsch strap knobs--- the hanger bolt has a small phillips head slot used to drive the bolt into the body. Take the actual knob off and look at the end of the hanger bolt. In Theory, the bolt is supposed to remain in the guitar body, and the knob portion comes off to mount the strap.
