...all i can say is: wow! i've owned a ton of vintage Gretsch's over the last 20 years, and some new ones too, mostly hollowbodies with Filtertrons, HiLo's, and Supertrons, but i gotta say i think the early Corvettes are fantastic! it makes me think of them as being the Esquires of the Gretsch line: amazing clarity, presence, and tone, played clean or overdriven. i haven't played through any pedals, yet, but so far it loves both my '61 Ampeg Mercury M-12, with a Weber Alnico, and my stock '64 Supro Vibra-Verb 2x12 combo. truly amazing! it will easily overdrive both these amps. i'd post some pics if i knew how. anyone else out there been pickin one of these bad boys?
Just got my 1962 Gretsch Corvette and...

I've got three, a `61 and two others I'm unsure of the exact years...likely a
63 and a66. I also play a TK300. Most get rotated in my lineup with our band. All have TV Jones Powertrons (or a Powertron Plus) except the66, which has a vintage DiMarzio Super2. I play through a Marshall currently, but have bad GAS for a Orange. I love myvettes and my TK. Great playing and sounding vintage guitars and they didn't break the bank. -

I've had a '67, 4 x 2, 2 hilos and a bigsby, for about 15 years. Found it in a pawnshop. It was my only Gretsch for a lot of years. I've glued the headstock back on at least twice, but it's still rockin'. I was in the studio a bunch this year, and used it a ton. Folks like to dis hilos sometimes for being weak, but it's what you DO with that signal. That guitar can be played so loud, and it just comes alive. You are right on about the clarity. No other pickups in the Gretsch line handle extreme overdrive as well. I favor dynas these days, but I know what my 'vette can do and still love and use it. If I ever make the big time, I will be wearing that guitar... Hey dual_tone: tubescreamer. Just a little drive goes a long way... Still kicking myself for letting that silver duke slip away here in the garage sale section a while back.

That's the BirdMan Truth -- HiLo @ hi volume sound hell on wheels... sure your amp isn't as loud as with buckers, etc. but turn it way up and you will be amazed

yeah, i'm impressed. i haven't even played through any effects yet (ie tubescreamer, fuzz, etc). it's a pretty cool guitar. not crazy about the small frets, but hey, it's a Gretsch!
