John's 6120 DC

  1. Here ya go!

Looks like there is some other interesting stuff in the display behind him.

  2. cool

  3. The amp that's mentioned is a tweed Vibrolux, which had been thought to be a Deluxe up until his cousing showed up on another gear board asking questions about it. He didn't mention who he was and everybody thought he was full of shit until somebody figured out it was Lennon's cousin.

  4. Nice to see that guitar surface . . .

Now for Paul's first Hofner 500/1.

    George's Tenny.

    And John's first J-160E.

  5. ...and so it looks like I'm due for a return visit to the R&RHOF.

    Paul/FF909

  6. That guy in the video, Howard Kramer, is a friend of mine from back in the 80's when he managed the Dead Milkmen.

  7. I'd be curious to know why the guitar is 1963 when Lennon got it in 1966. You would think that Mal or someone would have just gone and gotten a new one off the wall.

Or how that space control bridge came to be added.

    And the serial number.

  8. It would be nice to have that guitar's serial number documented.

  9. Interesting that the space control bridge is screwed-down. Both the pickguard and mute apparatus are removed from the guitar being displayed at the RR HOF. I wonder when those mods occurred?

  10. they bought a lot of used stuff , like the 2 strats they were used, and whats funny is sending out Mal to buy guitars , you wonder how many times he must have returned them after they tried them out , but then again can you imagine the riot if they , John George or Paul would have caused going to buy guitars

  11. Knavel , Mal was a penny pincher it seems ,,,,, good company man , saving a buck !!! :D

  12. Nice to see that guitar surface . . .

    George's Tenny.

    And John's first J-160E.

John's 1st J-160E was given to George in 1963. Actually, they traded with each other at the time. So, it's been hanging on the wall @ Friar Park for decades.

In fact, Deed has shown a photo before, of Duane playing it @ Friar Park during the "Duane Eddy" sessions in the 1980s.

  13. It would be nice to have that guitar's serial number documented.

that would be cool to know maybe you should write the guy,now that you have writen historical credentials .... ;-)

  14. Semantics. My understanding, according to "Beatles Gear" (and the website "Fab Guitars of the Beatles"), was that they were unknowingly swapped at some point early on and John and George weren't even aware of it. The J-160E that John was playing at that time (which yes turned out to be the one originally given to George at the time of purchase) turned up missing after the Christmas shows in 1963. Regardless, one of the original J-160E's that The Beatles owned is out there somewhere.

  15. Crowbone, perhaps this is a good time to reconnect with your old friend Howard if you haven't spoken in awhile ;).

  16. Nice! Thanx for sharing this!

Glad you liked it! Nice RIC, btw :)

Holy cow, haven't thought of that group in forever... "Punk Rock Girl" was one of my faves back in the day...

  19. I always wonder what happened to Johns Sonic Blue Stratocaster. There is hardly any mention of it anywhere.

If you look at the "Imagine" DVD (making of the album movie), you'll see/hear George play it on "How Do You Sleep?"

Has the same tone as George's 'Rocky' (what a shock ;-) ). It may be in the John Lennon Museum in Tokyo. If I get to Japan next year, that's one of the places I want to visit.

  21. So it is! Although the neck looks to be swapped out for a maple version. Would John have bothered with that? Perhaps George would have to get his slide tone?

  22. Cool photos of John, I'd always wondered what happened to his 6120.

Now as to George's Tenny I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was stolen. Anyone know the specifics on that.

  23. Thanx Joe Hi-LoTron! ;-) I love my 4001!

Over time, it seems that several of the Beatles' guitars were liberated from a storage closet at Abbey Road studios. Details are muddy (in my memory and on the written record), but your recollection of the Tenny being among the stolen matches what I read.

Any instruments currently not accounted for would be suspected theft victims... but I'm not sure what all is not accounted for. John's second Rick 325? George's second Rick-12 string? One of Paul's Hofners?

    Paul/FF909

  25. John's Fireglow 325 is in Ringo's collection, along with Marc Bolan's Les Paul, and George's Ed Sullivan Country Gent.

George's 2nd 12 string is among the several lifted from AR.
