Vintage Gretsch Guitars

Help with 1966 6120 Binding Shrinkage

1

Hey folks. My dream vintage Gretsch has come up at a reasonable price. However there is binding shrinkage by the fretboard. Is this early stages of the dreaded binding rot or something else?

There’s a photo in the listing: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-vie...

That's not rot, but it is some kind of separation. I'd ask for more pictures, especially all of the binding.

Yeah, waiting on that, but they say this is the only binding issue.

Jalexander, are you in Chatham, Ontario? (based on the kijijii ad) .

I was born and raised there until I moved off to university in Hamilton many, many years ago.

Nope - other side of Toronto and he’s looking for a local sale. Trying to figure out a way to get there amidst COVID.

Me neither. I was looking at that as well and ready for the drive from TO. Someone got a good deal (assuming it didn’t need a neck reset).

They must have put it in cold water: always causes shrinkage.
