Sorry, guys! I didn't know whether to post on the vintage Gretsch topics or the modern topics so I'll put it here and see what the wise Gretschians can tell me.
I just saw Johnny Depp rocking a "FireBird red," double cutaway Duo-Jet (?) on a clip called Hollywood Affair with Iggy Pop. Anybody know if there are/were red, double cutaway Duo-Jets? Or maybe double cutaway Jet FireBirds?
I have never seen any of either...unless this is a custom paint job on a regular Duo-Jet. From the looks of it, e.g. pickguard, tone and volume controls, etc., it seems more like a Duo-Jet and not a Jet FireBird.
Can someone help out? It is a beautiful looking guitar and it has such an "oh-so-nice" little roar especially when Johnny opens her up in this clip. I was thinking of picking up a Silver Jet myself (although the one shown in the clip is very pretty too), but that'll probably be down the road, especially in these times.
I've already got a Setzer Hot Rod and a Silver Falcon (the one with the nice avian themed block inlay and the winged headstock with vertical logo script that has since been replaced with the neo-classical inlay and the plaque headstock with horizontal script). Maybe I'll post a picture one of these days!
