hey. i was wondering if anyone can direct me to a resource for Gretsch shipping totals, and/or serial number info. i have a mid-60's "6117" Cat's Eye, in Red. i know they only made a couple hundred of them total, in both Red and Black, but now that i own one i'm more curious about exactly how many they made in Red and/or what the history is on my serial number, where is was originally shipped to and what year it was made (as some of you may or may not know, these did not have a serial number coding system on the back of the headstock, etc). just curious...

There is no official resource for Gretsch shipping totals (like Gibson and Martin have) and although a few on the forum have assembled serial number logs, they are by no means definitive or comprehensive.
If you'd like to PM me your s/n# I would be happy to share what I have on these catseye Annie's. I'll be traveling until Friday and off line until then.

Did you see this one that's on Ebay at the moment? It's from '67 (red)... I've seen others as early as early as '64/65.

yeah, thanks. i'm watching it to see what happens. i don't think there were as many as 1000 made, however, from what i've read in various vintage Gretsch and guitar books, etc. The Gruhn & Carter book suggests that only a couple hundred of each were ever made (ie black and red)...i know i've only seen a few over the years. either way, pretty rare and unusual (listed as "6117": sunburst double annies. HA!).

I doubt there were 1000 made too. Not sure where I got it, but I have 200 stuck in my mind. Perhaps a 100 each of the red and black. But maybe not all released at the same time. The hardware varies on them depending on the year their respective serial number indicates, but maybe they made all the bodies, and release a batch or two each year for a period of time. That's pure speculation... I'm just guessing.

i doubt the 1,000 number too.it's was my under standing they did qurterly increments 25/50/100 per batch depending on needs..(Fill orders) i thought cat eyes were a dealer one offs that they re-did,so nowere near 1,000,i even doubt 500 number? but again,it's all speculation......

Don't ask me why, but for some reason 100 of each color sounds very familiar. I may have read that somewhere along the line but I couldn't tell you where.
