Vintage Gretsch Guitars

Add on trestle bracing

26

apparently my guitar is into BDSM...

– Buddy Mercury

Shiny black seems to be a dominant color...

27

Talk about transforming a guitar into a “my guitar”, this one is way up there. Like.

31

Your work IS art.

34

My '57 6120 could have used that. I wish you'd been around then, but in those days Gretsches were strictly thrift store guitars and nobody cared.

35

missed you at NAMM this yr buddy! Would you allow me to post these pics to my facebook #GRETSCHMAFIA fan page? Its a real friendly page, no bullies or wieners about business if its all gretsch all the the time:)

I missed not going, cancelled my plane Wednesday night.

Are you mistaking me for someone who cares?!

Please share it from my FB page as it's a bit more descriptive.

ok cool... NAMM show ends up just being a big reunion, not much more. All the shows around it though are great. The Hillbilly Casino was epic and so loud it made Bob leave the bar.A blonde bassman should always be at least on 5! check it: https://www.instagram.com/p...

The axe is finished and back home with me (the lacquer is still curing, but it's stable)

I'm gonna do a lengthy write up of the difference within and between guitars. Try to make a quasi scientific case study of adding trestle bracing.

But in the meantime, here's a picture of two guys named curt/kurt

Fun day for sure!

I say this from my perspective, that guitar can hang out in my shop anytime.

For Ric 12; Fantastic sustain! Why is sustain important? So the notes don’t die before we’re done with them.

That's Epic Curt! "So the notes don't die before we're done with them"!

43

I see a bunch of staining inside by the f holes, is that from beer spillage over the years?

44

Wanna arrange a trip to hear your band.

The black stuff is from the spray bomb awful black paint that made this guitar a bargain. They didn't mask anything off so there was overspray everywhere.

46

I'm looking forward to the words from Mercury on this after he gets some studio time.

Delivery day was interesting, the last thing I did the day before was play the guitar for an hour, it was difficult to put it down. The next day I handed it to Kurt, he plugged it in NOTHING! Ha, a strand of ground wire was causing a short.

47

You should put some trestles in that bass!

– Jeff H

Maybe not trestles but I did put a pretty big sound post in it.

48

Cool topic.... Anyone have pics of ML bracing I wonder what the differences are between ML and trestle?

Here’s an image of ML bracing.

IIRC in '59 there were small "feet" -- someone on the site here called them a "plinth" -- that made up the difference between the trestle and the back of the body. Maybe Gretsch did this until they used up the shorter '58 trestles used to connect to the back braces of the '58s.
