$4,500 for a guitar that has a few issues, eh? Not sure about this one. I would be certainly curious about what the issue is with the buzzing low E string. And why in the world would anyone paint a tweed case? Wouldn't they know that paint would likely flake off from a material surface? And wouldn't their eyes tell them that it would not be a pretty sight?
Gee, not sure about this one.

Is it just me, or does the string spacing look wrong on the treble side of that compensated bridge? He also doesn't show a very good side view of the neck joint... bad reset? I love how the seller says; "Dynasonic Pickups, I think"....
For 5Gs, you better fricking know home boy....

It's a nice guitar... but it's been re-necked somewhere along the way (not unusual for Jets). I say that because I am aware of another example from this batch, only 2 or 3 serial numbers away, which had block markers on the fretboard, a bullet truss rod cover and the headstock logo had the reverse "G" serif.
Even so, it seems super clean, and although it's missing it's Melita bridge too it's still probably worth somebody taking a run at it as long as he's taking offers.

The spacing is not even from string to string, I think. But, if you look at the high E string, where it crosses the pole piece, it looks okay there. Just looks goofy down by the bridge and tailpiece.

I'm guessing that the case was painted just like "tweed" amps were painted black.
It was the "thing" to do at the time

Seeing that he has sold musical instruments and pedals for some time, do you really buy the "this was my granparents guitar" Spiel, or " I think these are dynasonics"? C'mon man, if he was so unknowing about it, how come the price?

True, but I have seen "dumb" sellers ask very high prices, without BIN or Best Offers.
Why...................cuz they were REALLY dumb

Be careful boys... lots of "grandfathers" out there were hard rockers back in the day, and more than capable of changing parts, and moding their axes! Sucks getting old!

The headstock on the eBay Jet is wider at the top than bottom, which is weird. The lower portion looks off, too. Check out this photo of an original at Elderly. Perhaps a non-original, non-original neck?

Mugsy's post (with link) does a much better job of illustrating my points above... this is not the original neck.

Oh I didn't mean that.. I thought it was funny he said the two of them changed it out like it was some unanimous decision.
"Mable, I think I oughter change this bridge out." "You know Walt, I reckon you're right. Slap it up on the table there.."

That is a funny image Tsar! Gramps wanting a compensated aluminum bridge, and Granny holding out for a tun-o-matic... the arguing late into the evening...
What this guitar DOES possess, for those of you that were engaged in the recent thread about Dyna spacers, are the tortoise celluloid material variety of spacers. No special significants to this, but since it was a recent topic of interest, I thought I'd point that out.

Mugsy, pointing out build flaws actually gives it more cred as a factory job! That is not meant as a hack on Gretsch per say, but based on my own experience with vintage Gretsches I own / have owned. Things lining up usually seemed less common. LOL you should see how the tuners line up (or don't rather)on my '60 6118.

I think that guitar was re-necked in '58. The headstock looks fine for that era. Any dimensional aberrations are likely from camera angle. Anyone want to comment on the neck heel? I've never had a '58, and that's the thing on this that looks odd to me. Just different from anything else I have. I'd love it if a re-neck could sell for this price! (but it won't...) My '55 would be for sale quick...

Yeah those pictures speak for themselves. I mean back to back serial numbers and look at the difference in those headstocks!!
Renecks were very common. I had a '55 Country Club for years that was a reneck from around '58.
