Anyone know which pickguard would have originally been on a 6128 from the 164xx batch? Was it the silver one by this time? Mine lost it's guard before I got it. I'm considering making one out of alumunum, as well as getting a repro if I can't find an original. I am also wondering if the guards changed shape again before filters came into the game, as I have a guard from 17xxx I could trace.

Hey riz, I believe that by 56 for sure the tear drop plexi shaped guard was used and stayed the same until Filters. The logo may have moved a bit but I think the general shape of the guard was from the same mold. I'm having Jim H and Shelvis mail me tracings of their 57's guards. I would really like to have the trace of your 17xxx's if possible.
I had a fellow poster send me their small no notch Les Paul kind of looking early Jet guard to make a trace from years ago. It was warped pretty good but I was able to flatten it out and get a good template made. Here is the result. The multi layered one is only 3 ply and needs to be more. The single ply shell was material I got from StewMac.
As for the 55 guard shape I don't know but I'm sure others will chime in with opinions. I think that the guard mount holes on all the early Jets up to the 57s are close.

Paul's right... yours would be the notched, teardrop shaped, silver guard with black T-roof logo. Not sure if/when it changed again.

Thanks guys! I thought it should be silver from looking at others, but couldn't remember where the cutoff was. Paul, I will trace everything I have and send it to ya. In addition to the 17xxx, I have 23xxx and 35xxx Jets. I don't know if they still work, but I'm gonna try PM'ing ya.
