For those of you out there (and I know you're out there!) that have always wanted to make a three pu 6120... apparently here's your chance, and it's guilt free! I have no affiliation with this auction, but it's clear this double-cut 6120 has had another pu added (and then removed). Note the extra control knobs. Anyway, I hear some of you talk about various 3-pu mutations. This one is ready-made!
3-pu 6120...waiting to happen!

My guess is that wenzel's uncle owned it back in the day. Looks like a wenzelian control pot arc.
Then he decided it wasn't the grail after all.
The next owner tired of the Hilotron/Dynasonic/Filtertron arrangement and tried to patch it. (Are those really TVs in there, though?)
Now that wenzel has seen his personal light at the 24.6" wavelength, I suspect he'll be snapping this one up, both to memorialize his uncle's legacy and to get back to the rule of three he's given up with his Club.
Plus, this one's vintage, and will go better with a tweed amp.

I don't think Chris likes double cutaway Gretsches though.

Yeah, I like DC models just fine. Actually, one of the first Gretsch's I'd ever played and fell in love with was a 1965 DC Nashville if I remember right. I also love the Country Gentleman from 1964 that I played. Never could afford them back when I was 17 years old, but I knew they were great guitars. Thanks to the Beatles for turning me onto Gretsch forever...

It looks like a nice guitar besides the "plate" in the center (which doesn't look like it was done that badly). For some reason I'm slowly warming up to the double cutaways...Hmmmm...

Here's one that if I had the money, I'd buy today... It's black in case anyone's wondering and it's a 6120DC.

Funny how the auction doesnt really have any close ups of the "plate" area. It seems to me that's where most guys would want to check out first.
I've never been a really big fan of DC Gretsches, or other guitars with 2 cuts, for that matter.I had to sit and think for a minute as to exactly why, as I could'nt readily recall the reason(s).
After a minute or two of pondering , it all started to come back to me....
...Way back when, in the 80's through the early 90's, when you could still afford a lot of vintage guitars, and when the Stray Cats and Setzer first came along, a lot of guys snapped up all the single cut 6120's, 'cause they were now cool again. Soon to follow were all the Anniversary's, Clipper's etc...Some guys modded/transformed them into 2 pickup guitars, added Bigsbys, etc...going for the complete rockabilly (as I knew it at the time) vibe.
There was no internet, so the only real way to know what guitar store had what was to call, or subscibe to their mailing lists.....
....and one could find mid 60's DC Nashvilles all day, going for about 1500. to 1700. dollars.
"A guitar from the sixties? Why, that aint rockabilly!", I'd say, "with 2 cutaways? Bleechh.."
I realise now that I didnt like them because I had no "Setzer" like hero to identify them with, plus, they were obtainable, which always makes something less desirable in the "Star Bellied Sneetches" world in which we live .
Now I am kinda starting to like them, and the upper fret access whilst still maintaining a hollowness to the sound is cool.
But there's still that old, ingrained bias toward them from the old days....just a little....I'm working on it though.....

I would really want to see what's underneath that plate to see if the parallel braces under the top are intact.

I hear you ROP! The DC's bellies got no stars... All those rockabilly cats all taunted and hooted. Whenever a single cut 6120 owner walked by he'd boast and brag and would never invite the DC owner to the frankfuter roasts... If you don't have a 6120 single cutaway your bottom might get booted... What you need son is a visit from Sylvester McMonkey McBean. Then you can take a trip through his Double Cut-Off machine.
