Was this a good year for the Tennessean and does anyone know where in the USA they were made that year? And should the serial #s have a hyphenated number for the month. For example, 3-8094 would be March (3), 1978 (8) and the 94th guitar made that month. Were there two different models in 74? I've seen pictures of one with open f holes and a different pickguard and one with closed f holes and a sixties style pickguard. What's up with that? any input would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, most Gretsch s/n's from 1972 -81 should have the hyphenated number .

A 1974 model would have been made in Booneville Arkansas.

Can't say for sure about 1974 but in the 1975 catalog there is only one model and it has open holes
Link to 1975 catalog model 7655 page
Also for some reason some guitars from that time period do not have the hyphen in the SN. Some have a dot and some have nothing.

Thanks 4 the link. Yea I think they started with the funky pickguard in 73-74 as well. Just found that info you mentioned about the different serial #s as well
