I finally made it into the Country Club for good(I borrowed a friends '79 years ago and was hooked)! This one is a custom color tan(OR refin. I don't know but I like it). You can see the original hue on the back of the neck, and under the tailpiece and pick guard. The wiring has been redone. The FilterTrons are coil split. Two top switches control this. Lower switch is a pickup selector. Master volume and individual tone control pots. Dial up mute missing. Nut work has been done, note the missing binding at the zero fret. I had to make the D shaped back cover, it was missing. The Gold pickup surrounds are actually black ones that have been painted Gold on top. I added the SC bridge. The guitar arrived to me with a Nickel body Melita with Gold parts and the action was high as a result. It has trestle bracing with two top rails. I guess if you see a D shaped cover on the back then thge guitar should have bracing right? When did the trestles end on the Clubs? It sounds incredible and plays great. Nice action and smooth tuning from the Grovers(later vintage versions). The tapped FilterTrons sound nice when in single coil mode but are glorious in full. With the switch in the middle selecting both pickups and one of the pickups humbucker and the other single sounds sweet. In single coil mode they do not remind me of HiLoTrons, single coil yes, but not HiLo. I'm leaving the wiring as is. The case is not original to the guitar, but is in top notch shape. It's a keeper! Hope you like my pictures I took today. It was overcast this afternoon.

Cool stuff Paul, I've seen a similar year Club in blonde with a spruce top, trestle bracing and the cutout backpadded back, I think very few were like this.

That one has been on ebay for awhile, I think I saw it listed under the word Gretch instead of Gretsch if I'm not mistaken.

Yep, it was a mispelled listing,(but I made the deal offline)...just like the '56 Streamliner was listed under "pens"...but I saw that listing here because of you know who! LOL
I love the feel and sound of this Club. I'm really enjoying it.

Wow, I had no idea that there were mute models that had trestle bracing. I wonder if the other early mute models still had trestle bracing? I've never seen the inside of the really early dial-up Gents or 6120's.

Hey Paul, great acquisition! Congrats!
The 6196 model number is interesting. Hard to believe any sober person would refin a Cad Green Club. Might lend credence to the idea of a factory custom finish.
Any chance you have a spare gold slider and/or thumb screw from that Melita that was on her?

Thank you GDPers for the replys about this guitar.
Thanks Chris!
Josh, I'll do that as soon as the weather turns nice again. That was one of the first things I did was compare the colors...I was hoping they would have been closer but alas, the Club is not Metallic at all.
afire, I want to take some more photos of the inside. Like the bottom of the dial up plate area and the neck and tail block area etc.
KC, I agree about Caddy refins...why would somebody, but I guess anything is possible. Having said that I can't find any kind of Green overspray anywhere. This one is very interesting to me. Before the guitar arrived I ordered and extra Gold slider and thumbscrew from Mitch at Blackrider to use on this Melita as it was missing these parts. So as of now I do not have any extra parts but will keep an eye out for some. I need to order some more Nickel sliders to have some extras so I'll contact Mitch again to see what he has in the way of Gold parts. I think he may still have some of Duke's stuff left.
Thanks otter!
Cali, thanks! These F holes are tiny. how do they compared to later ClubsLike in rogerguys photo of a 62 below)?
senojnad, the switching is one of the things I really really like about this guitar. I'm a single coil guy at heart and having the ability to split these Filters is great. They are glorious as HBs!
Thanks Curt!
Walter, thanks and yes I like the one-offs, the odd ones, misfits. Player grade is where it is at for me.
Cool photo roger, thanks for posting it. It looks sweet! Those F holes look larger than the 61's above.
Thanks Nobody!

Beautiful Club Paul,congrats
The last one i played was a 1960 6196 Caddy green,no padded back or mutes though, as you would expect. That was back in 1997.
