That is beautiful Maple on the front. Wow! Looks like the old Entwistle 6120. Does that type of figuring have a special name? Doesn't look like curly maple or fiddleback maple but doesn't look like quilted or spalted either. Sure is pretty tho'.

I have wondered myself what you would call the effect, it looks like a cross between tiger stripe and quilt although in those days I dont think they had the same reference. Figured maple was always put on the rear of archtops by Gibson.Epiphone and indeed Hofner and i believe this new trend of putting the figured wood on the tops was started by Gibson with the 1958/60 sunburst Les Paul standards. Anyway this is my 6120 "burst"......kewl.

I'm not a big fan of flamey tops but that looks gorgeous.
Quite a steal for 2000 quid.
even though it has some issues, it doesn't look like anything that can't be fixed.

Very nice guitar Stubert. I have always dreamed of some long lost Uncle or relative who had a lovely Gretsch under his bed for 50+ years and who then decided to let me have so it was in a good home and cherished. I dream in vain! I did sell a 1960 Tele years ago for £68 though! Aaaaargh!!
Seriously Stubert - a great deal on on a beautiful guitar. Well done. I wonder if my 05 DSW will still be around in 50 years time?

Great find.
I really must get a 1959/60 6120 someday.
