KCeddieB, you're right. The model is determined by features, so it's possible (maybe probable) that the guitar has been made in '56. What I meant to say is that this is a '57 model and, for this reason, should be less expensive than a '56 model. I think the seller should have written, more appropriately, 1957 Gretsch, because we (and he) cannot know the exact date of manufacturing. For 57Chet: potentiometer codes were first elucidated by Hans Moust of Breda, Holland. They are composed by a three-digit number, the manufacturer's code, a one- or two-digit number, the year of manufacturing, and a two-digit code, the week of manufacturing.
More important of all: as long as I've been checking I could find this kind of tuners only on late sixties-early seventies model. Once more this should concur to lower the price, as the guitar seems to be not fully original! And anyway, I think the price is good as is under 8000$... and probably the guitar sounds darn good, but neither us nor Scott can know. This is the problem when you cannot try the guitar before buying.
