Hey y'all!
I'm in the midst of getting the list finalized to go for prize distribution, and see bobby's request to ask a question to give away the extra Bigsby patch.
Sounds good to me!
bobby, ask your question, and the winner gets the last patch.

OK here goes- It's a two parter: 1. What was Duane Dennisons first band? 2. What is the connection between that band and Texas music/ Punk history?
I was just about to give the answer but I thought I'd let some other lucky fellow win.
Cargo Cult and they were from Austin Texas, and their album was an early one on Touch and Go Records.
Duane's first band of note was Cargo Cult. The connection to Punk history is that Cargo Cult was started by Randy Biscuit who was in the Big Boys. The Big Boy's unique funky Hardcore was a seminal force not only in Texas Punk, but nationally (perhaps even internationally later on) as well. The Big Boy's are said to have inspired many great Texas bands such as Scratch Acid and the Butthole Surfers.
I'm not sure I dug Duane being buried in the Shake Shakers sound and I think it is a shame he's not in a band he can really shine in. Jesus Lizard was a spectacular band and even though Yow got a lot of the credit there is little doubt that Dennison's guitar playing contributed greatly to the band.
AJ's got it.
Cargo Cult and Randy "Biscuit" Turner (or the Big Boys would have been acceptable) were the answers I was looking for...Pretty interesting record if you can get ahold of the LP (I'm not sure if it was ever reissued on CD),PM your contact info to Proteus!
Yup, and quicklike too; I'm getting the list ready to go to Joe, yo.
This'll be interesting...FMIC shipping something TO China!
I love these giveaway threads, even tho I am usually too late to participate. But I got a t-shirt the previous time. Wore it this week at the office. People ask what it is and then there's usually somebody that says "very expensive guitars".
Good one AJ, I knew there had to be more to the second part of the question I just didn't know.
Adam - I feel a little bad about winning; you were so close but not there.
I never thought my vast knowledge of Punk trivia would come in so handy here at GDP. To me, one of the funniest parts to this is that I think the Big Boys are OK, but not all that great. I love Texas Punk and Hardcore; the state produced a lot of great bands but I never understood why the Big Boys are held above the others. Guess you had to be there.
Jesus Lizard, on the other hand, I simply love. That band kicked ass. I saw them in 1992 (or so) and it was a spectacular show; I didn't even mind when I dislocated my shoulder in the pit (it hurt, but I popped it back in place and kept enjoying the show).
The Big Boys weren't great and neither was Cargo Cult- I found the LP at a record store for 3 bucks many years ago. I recognised Randy Turner's name and bought it. Kinda sucked although "Amusement Park Disasters" is a pretty good tune. I ended up up giving the record to a friend of mine who was a huge Jesus Lizard fan.
Don't worry AJ- it's just a patch and you are clearly more familiar with the subject, enjoy it!. All in good fun, and with a poster on the way I'm more than set. I was just excited to be able to have the first crack at a question because that never happens.
I got the Bigsby Patch today! I'd honestly forgotten about it. Thanks Proteus and Joe Carducci!
