I think you'll agree this lady deserves her own thread of introduction.
Even in the sea of ink which was the crowd at the Revival, Wendi stood out.
For one thing, she wasn't dressed rockabilly; she was dressed classy artist. For another, she's simply beautiful - in a quiet, graceful, naturally elegant way that would make her unique at any gathering.
And then there was the extent, quality, detail, and vivid color of her ink.
There had to be a story, and I got a little of it. It turns out Wendi is a friend of Kim Falcon's; they found themselves neighbors in California a few years ago, where their children went to the same school. Wendi had since moved to Austin, and of course when Kim knew she'd be coming for the Revival gig, she called Wendi.
A graduate of art school and painter of considerable vision and accomplishment, Wendi has also been a tattoo artist for 18+ years, working in studios in Florida, California, and now Austin.
She has a unique eye, a graceful but versatile approach, and equal skill in the impressionistic, ethereal, representative, and visceral. She specializes in tattoo portraiture and realism; indeed some of her work could be on canvas, and the texture of skin beneath sometimes comes as a surprise.
You might call hers a woman's approach to body art, but it's hardly generically feminine (if there's such a thing); it's uniquely her own.
Besides her technical skill and graphic artistry, she's warm, friendly, and - insofar as a guy could tell in a conversation at a concert - deeply engaged in living a satisfying life, doing what she loves.
It's a joy to meet people who are on the path they were meant for.
Whether or not you're considering new ink, you owe it to yourself to check out her work (in both the fine art and tatto galleries) at her site. You may find yourself thinking ink.
