When is enough GEAR...ENOUGH?

If I don't play it, it is doomed to be sold. This process can take a year or more.
The thing is, there is always something worth trying out there, the tough part is figuring out what is going to give you the most bang for your buck.. or your trade.. or your firstborn and living room furniture...

When you find something and say: "Huh, so I DO have one of these..."

I have GAS but usually keep it in check. Getting a strong urge now that I may act upon though. Generally, I try to justify by not duplicating. I don't have the quantity that many here have. It's the same ole having what I need but wanting one more. I'm just a hobby player at home, but billydlight probably summed it up best.

I think I'd like a Caddy Green Jet, but I need one like I need a hole in my head no better than I play, I do hope to try one out if I ever run across one.

Just saw Jeff O's list of guitars on another thread. Somethin' tells me he may have just crossed the line into "Enough" for those of you seeking further clarification of this term...

I'm not good enough at guitar to justify having a bunch of them. Whatever I play just sounds like me chopping on a guitar. I do like to have 1 good acoustic and 1 good electric, though. Hoping to get a Jumbo Rancher soon. Bass-wise I kind of like a variety (one fretless, one with a B-String etc.) but I don't suck as bad at bass. I have a "signature sound" with a bass as opposed to just making everything I play sound like crap.

See what I mean Vern? :P
Yeah, I do
Although I'm pretty happy with what I have now. I will admit to lusting for a killer (read expen$ive) acoustic but I don't have the funds.

T-Man, have I been missing something all these years?
Argentine strings have been around since Django's time and are an important part of the sound, together with a Selmer or Maccaferri type of guitar, a thick pick and a particular playing technique. Surprisingly, they are quite thin and supple, and you attack them really hard with those thick and rigid picks. There are other makes now; others have tried to copy and improve the formula. Which ones sounds best depends on the guitar, the player etc. So far Argentines works best for me and my guitar. They are acoustic strings so they will probably not be ideal for an amplified Gibson jazz box. Gypsy jazz is like French cars. It's a world of its own.

Thanks for the heads up. Good point on the uniqueness of Gypsy jazz.

Yes, very specific gear is involved, very different from other styles. This can of course be a bit problematic. If you don't happen to live in Paris. Which you don't normally do. Unless you are a Parisian. But most probably you're not. So you don't. Which means that gear is difficult to track down. Maybe a good cure for GAS?

With 15+ guitars, and just as many amps, the only things I really need at this point are a CGP and a Standel. Anything else would just be unnecessary luxuries.
