I mean this minute. Me: Gene Clark, Because of You, from the album White Light. It just occurred to me reading the Robin Gibb thread that there are all sorts of people on the GDP and I'm always interested to hear about new music or be reminded of things I've neglected, so if you have something playing in the background as you read this, could you share it?

The Civil Wars' Barton Hollow album; couldn't tell you what track, as I stopped knowing what track was playing when I mothballed my turntable.

I'm listening to a little Paul McCartney and Wings Live in Seattle 1976 on the Youtubes:
Great bass line!

The album Tassili by the African band Tinariwen. They are Tuareg nomads from the Sahara (yeah, that's where VW got the name for its 4x4!). We saw them at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool a couple of weeks back. They are playing dates in the USA during early June.
I have difficulty with Indian music. Although I can appreciate the great skill of the players, my little brain can find no real tonal reference point for what I'm listening to — I'm asking myself, "Er, is this good?" I'm sure it is.
No such problem with this African music, which is mostly twanged on Fenders. I need a few minutes to tune in to the rather guttural vocals, then I'm fine. Live, when this band gets fully warmed up they really rock out — Bo Diddley meets Africa!

'I stopped knowing what track was playing when I mothballed my turntable' I had to look. I have hundreds of tracks on my iPod which I can identify by song, producer, or singer, but the only ones I'm really confident about are the ones I've put a stylus on a hundred times.

DaveK, I saw Tinariwen a few years ago and have a couple of albums too. They are as dangerous as the Clash wished they were!

Oasis - The Masterplan Rockin' Chair has probably my favorite acoustic solo.

Charlie Parker, a collection. I love that music, especially the early stuff with Dizzy Gillespie, even if I like most of the recordings with the young Miles Davis too. But with Diz, it's really gets explosive, the punk rock of jazz, but with virtuoso instrumentalists.

Elliott Smith, just recently added what I was missing from his discography to my collection

Just got out of the car and had the "Double Down in Denver" CD on by The Band of Heathens... the best band you have probably never heard of.
