Billy, in that last photo, you are making the George Carlin face, nice tribute man!
Trying to beef up my rockabilly lead - any cool chord or triad shapes to throw into solos?

All kidding aside it is hard for me to explain how I do my thing but if you go here There is a bunch of video of me doing it close up. Also demonstrating some cool guitars and amps you can clearly see the hands in a lot of it. Feel free to steal anything worth stealing
It's what I do

I've seen this Setzer DVD many times but most the stuff I already knew, and he spends an awful lot of time on stuff that I think is totally not interesting.

It's all about the jazzzz man!
Learn the solo to Rose Room by Charlie Christian and you will have a myriad of shapes and arpeggios to steal and fool around with. It's a great solo, besides.

Yes those Revelators look and sound great. I have watched many of these vids already. I thought the guy was just great at making faces.
Nice picking. I think about the same as me. Did the guy rate himself in the rate yourself thread?
Now I am gonna check out this Charlie Christian stuff, because I HAVE NEVER HEARD of this guy.

I studied some Reinhardt things in the past. This is a lot like that.
It's not what I am looking for.
I will explain an easy trick here that beaves up your rockabilly soloing.

We all know this right?
Now forget that "first position".
Let's assume that you play the bottom right note with your pinky and the top right with your index finger. While the index finger is on the 3rd position. So you do this over the G-chord.
So high e-string, pinky 6th position, index finger 3rd, b-string pinky 6th, index 3rd, G-string ring finger 5th, index 3rd.... and so on.
Ok?
Now comes the trick; everytime after you've played the note on the 3rd position, you pull the string with your index finger.
So on the high e-string you do 6th, 3rd, loose e-string coz of the pulling.
On b-string, same.
On g-string, 5th, 3rd, pulled loose string.
And so on.
In this example you go from high notes to low notes. But you can go in both directions. Or you can repeat it on two strings. Or repeat it over and over one string. Like on the G.....
It hardly requires any practice to learn to do that really fast. You already know the scale and you only have to do that extra pull.
And it of course only sounds ok if you do this over the G-chord.

If you go here http://www.myspace.com/hillbillyhellcats
and play the song "white trash" you can hear it at the 55th second as a solo ending.
And something like that is also in the last solo ending.

I've been looking for a good Charlie Christian DVD lesson or audio disc lesson for ages. Considering the mans impact, there's little stuff available in tab form. And I'd like to mention a DVD that IS available and should be avoided....the Andy Aledort DVD from Hal Leonard. Its cool to hear him run through dozens of solos but there's no info and sparse explanation on how it's done....no slowing down parts. It made me realise just how good Paul Pigats lessons are in comparison. So....any advice on Charlie Christian licks ?(apart the obvious Amazon search)

yeah, thanks Robert. (If I can get the damn realplayer to work on my Mac I'll be in Christian heaven!) The tabs are great, should be a few hours spent deciphering all that jazz!
