Can anyone recommend a pomade that has high shine to it?? been using royal crown, but my girlfriend hates the smell of it. I've heard of one called bluemagic, that supposedly gives a really greasy shine... but never have found it anywhere. I've tried just using murray's alone... but I don't get the awesome greasy shine with just it.
Pomade- it's not easy being greasy

As far as shine goes, I've never found anything better than Royal Crown, but then again my pomade selection has never been very diverse or adventurous. Stay away from anything wax-based if you're going for real greasy-type shine; get the petroleum jelly stuff. A less traditional approach would be a gel-type pomade: I've had luck with Sportin' Waves products. They're not as grease-shiny as Royal Crown, but I'm sure your girlfriend would prefer the smell. I've personally always loved the smell of RC, there's nothing like it.
I've moved away from the real greasy pomades like RC towards the waxy Murray's Superior or Dax Wave and Groom (excellent smell, and hurricane proof as Zak Izbinsky once recommended), but that's because I had longer hair and needed a stronger hold. Unfortunately I've just shaven my head, so the Dax will be sitting in the closet for a few months.

As some who've been here a while might attest, I do love these pomade threads.
They pop up every six months or so, but sadly fizzle out rather quickly. At some point before that they tend to degrade into some sort of PBR-related discussion. Not sure why

Murray's NuNile, I got a tin the other day cause I couldn't find any Murray's Suprerior. It's real slick looking, and is really easy to get in because it's so soft. But I can seriously sleep a whole night and wake up with my hair still perfect.

Make sure you go to a barber and not a FO-FO shop.A Fo-Fo shop can not give you a decent ducktail, they do not know how to taper a hair cut!I am a barber and you can also ask TomT, who is also a barber. Becareful if you smoke, that you get your hair to close to the flame with all that goop!!

I have been thinking about getting "greased up" for a while, but am not too sure...it's either that or a haircut
you can't just wash that stuff out, right? I mean it's pretty much in there for the long haul...does it seep into your scalp and make you rebuild '49 Fords?
I used some bees-waxy stuff once upon a time, but don't remember if I liked it or not...so the waxy stuff is for thicker hair?

Sweet Georgia Brown is the best pomade hands down! Trust me, your lady will love the smell of this stuff.
Use the blue for a base and the red for shine.
Ive been using this pomade for about 4 years now. Its the sweetest smelling hair product known to man.

It's about time we had another pomade thread.

I used to use Murray's as a base and Royal Crown on top, but I cut my hair into a non-pompable style, so I don't use any of it any more.
There's another one called Mad Cats pomade. As I understand it the guy quit making it, but if you can find it, it smells really nice, and works well too.

The Blue can of Sweet Georgia Brown has the same hold as Murray's Superior. And the Red can of SGB has the same consistency and shine as Royal Crown. And I really cant say enough about how good this stuff smells. I couldn't find it anywhere for a while and was lost without it, but then production started back up just recently.

Wow, I didn't realize people still used this stuff anymore. I remember back in the late 50's using Old Southern Pomade. It had a great sweet smell, and had the consistency of vaseline petroleum jelly. It seems like the only place we could get it was at Ben Franklins. I lived in Montana and when we went outside on those subzero winter mornings to go to school, our hair would freeze stiff. I started the band in 1961 and then came hair spray and the dry look. I still have hair and still use a little hair spray, but remember well my greasy days. One of my friends ran out of pomade one time so used Crisco. It worked fine but didn't have much of a smell.

I never got the allure of pomade. I've tried it a few times, but never liked the sensation of a greasy head or having to constantly brush my hair back into place.
I'll stick to good ol' Auqu Net (the ozone layer be damned!!). It's all day, all weather hold leaves me with a shiny, luxurious looking head of fur.
