le Tour de France

  1. Disc is my next purchase...maybe. Lot of dough for something I might use 5 or 6 times a year.

  2. The Kestrel Airfoil Pro triathalon bike sure looks pretty wicked!

  3. Exactly why I dont own a disc ;-) I had one for a while, but sold with the bike it was on. I'd love to have a set of those vintage white Campy discs for the funny bike, but probably will never happen.

Kestrel has alway been outside the box with their style. Interesting designs!

  4. If I recall correctly, Kestrel was one of the first bike manufactures to build a all carbon fibre frame (and forks) way back around 1986. They also came out with a carbon fibre mountain bike frame around the same time.

  5. I saw the Kestrel Airfoil at the local store yesterday...$3100 with Oval wheels and Ultegra, meaning that bike is $5k with Zipps and Dura Ace (as pictured).

    EDIT

That might be Campy Chorus 11...same price though.

  6. Breaking News. My ITs are suddenly starting to bother me.

    For the first time.

    Lovely.

  7. START STRETCHING!!! Those ITs can be a real PITA...or PITH(ips), as it were.

  8. had the Felt professionally fit yesterday

caint wait to ride and see how much it improved my wattage output

  9. Almost as soon as I hit 40, the pains & strains started in in earnest. When I get back on the bike here soon I plan to do a "slow" rise to fitness. Yes, stretch! Make sure you are fitted properly & warm up slowly. Getting old sucks!

  10. Well.... what is the prognosis on the new fitment of the Felt? ;-)

  11. had to work late...plus I was still tired from helping my friend move this weekend.

    Tuesday hope to get out

  12. Yep. Stretching and rolling daily, though the rolling doesn't bring on anything. So this leads me to believe that it is early enough that it's the "inflamation" but not scarring adhesions yet. Early.

Anyhow, I have a feeling that it has something to do with very suddenly doing 400+ in a month, with relatively long rides and climbing....when I've had very few miles per month over the past year and a half.

Not too unlike getting back on the tennis court for the first time in a few years and saying, "okay, I'm going to get this body in shape," and start doing "suicide drills"....then the next day realizing, "hey, how did I get shin splints?"

    Done that.

  13. going out for 40 right now, in the heat...slow ride, just to see how the Felt is dialed in

  14. Yeah- avoid the adhesions at all costs. Those things are EFFING PAINFUL to get rid of.

  15. The bike is fast...REALLY fast. To test it I let it roll down hills I normally pedal on, and hit the same speeds not pedalling - upper 30's approaching 40. It's dialed in nicely now, too.

Still have some minor knee pain so I didn't push it...have to do a century on it, maybe this weekend.

  16. Sounds outstanding, Jeff.

  17. What's the highest speed you guys have gotten? Mine's 43 mph, downhill, no brakes, (not pedaling of course- at 43 mph, I'm out of gears anyway)

  18. I've broken 45, but that was 8 years ago.

I chase 45 on the hills we normally ride...downhill AND pedalling (it's a fairly short hill with a long tail off), but rarely get above 42. But I can hit 42 just about every time I have enough energy to really try.

  19. funny you should ask because yesterday as I rolled down at 33 without pedaling I figured I had the bike to finally beat 45...plus the Felt is very stiff, so easier to get up to speed and control when I get there.

  20. I just read that the Olympic Committee may strip the gold medal that Tyler Hamilton won in 2004 because he admitted using 'performance enhancing' drugs...

LONDON – An Olympic official familiar with the case says the IOC is set to formally strip American cyclist Tyler Hamilton of his gold from the 2004 Athens Games and reassign the medals after his admission of doping.

With the eight-year deadline approaching, the official tells The Associated Press the IOC executive board will meet Friday to readjust the standings from the road race time trial.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision hasn't been announced yet.

After years of denials, Hamilton told CBS's "60 Minutes" last year that he had repeatedly used performance-enhancing drugs.

The IOC asked for documents from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency before reallocating the medals.

The gold will now go to retired Russian rider Viatcheslav Ekimov, a former teammate of Hamilton and Lance Armstrong.

American Bobby Julich will be moved up from bronze to silver, and Michael Rogers of Australia from fourth to bronze.

  21. My grade school just called...they are taking away the A that I got in math because someone told them I had a calculator at home.

  22. just tell me when this thread ends up with bikes sporting engines.

  23. 51

  24. 52 coming off the last downhill of Angeles Crest on the Steel bike. I had help, though. A buddy of mine who is pushing 190lbs + & is a fast guy downhill to begin with was working with me on the descent. I timed it so that I could come around him on the steep section & put everything I had left into it.

  25. Tavo...never, so get off your lazy ass and get some exercise
