  2. Not enough mustard I suppose.

  3. Ha, Piratesrule. I built a custom home along the Russian River out in Monte Rio, Calif a few years a go and the main dive in town was 'The Pink Elephant'!

You avatar looks like the same sign!

  4. Well said Hermitt, and with relish. I have been trying out a few of those lately.

Minutes? The best ones in NYC are the 3 month old ones that come out of a vendor's cart in front of Yankee stadium. In September.

  12. Nuthin' beats a new yawk dirty water dog...

That said, thought it was ironic (or hypocritical) of our Mayor to be a speaker at the Nathan's contest while trying to forbid stores from selling sodas over 16 oz. though it was great seeing his clip (find it if you haven't seen it). He reads a prewritten statement filled with puns (relish, dog, etc), then at the end says "who wrote this shit"?

  13. the best "hotdogs" I ever had was when I was in the Army back in the early 70's. the buns were steamed and the "dogs" were heated on a rotisserie wheel. they were sold at the EM/NCO Club for a quarter(25 cents) a piece. :D

  14. well last week i went to the most well known hot dog joint this side of the rocky mauntains... Pink's hot dogs.....i gotta say, it sucked. maybe its because i ordered the one with pastrami and japapenos but jeezuz it was messy and not worth the price. for three hot dogs, one order of fries, and one order of onion rings plus 2 drinks it cost me 30 bucks... :| ...not worth it.

needless to say i still want a good hot dog

  15. I like mine with sauerkraut and mustard on a poppy seed bun.

  16. Hmmm, Nathan's....#1.

Down here in TX, we put just about anything/everything on them. But personally, I like the Nathan foot longs, with Duke's mayo, German Bavarian sweet mustard, pickle relish, Wolf brand chili, and covered in shredded cheddar. Poppy seed bun works just fine.

Occasionally, will get a hankering for Bavarian sweet sauerkraut, and use that with the Duke's, and relish. Yumm.

I don't really have a dog in this fight (groan), but NYC ain't got nothin' on Chicago.

  18. Hermitt , actualy NYC has the best water,,,,,,,, there is a company in Mass , they made bagels , called New York Bagles i think ,,,,,,, well he spent a ton of money on this factory and followed the recipe to the letter , and the bagles sucked ,,,,,,, come to find out the reason why NYC bagles are the best is the water , so he relocated part of his biz to NY and then ships the bagles back to Mass

  19. oh i am sure that Barry knows of the food cart on the corner of 53rd and 6th ,,, i have never ever seen a food cart rake in soooooooooo much money ,,,from the time her opens its a constant flow of people , then at night the line has hundreds waiting in line for this guys food ,,,, totaly amazing

  20. Kim and I took a trip to Chicago in early March. We waited in a long long line to get into the Shedd Aquarium. Once out, the line was longer, and with that wind coming off the water it was freezing outside. We got a Chicago dog at a stand by the steps before walking to the Field Museum. That hot dog was the best, hottest treat I'd had in years, especially for a dog!

Addendum: Chicago cats...some people in Winter gear, some actually in shorts, but all people were cold.

    ...wisdom through all beef "only"

  21. New York city tap water is some of the finest in the country, it comes from a handful of pristine reservoirs in the Catskill Mountains. And this is a NYC hot dog cart, some good old dirty water dogs.

  22. You can't beat a Chicago style hot dog. I'm biased growing up in Chicago, but every other way just seems wrong.

I never thought of the water... Maybe Lake Michigan's water is part of the ingrident.

  23. If this thread drifts into a Chicago vs NYC pizza Bax is going to have to shut it down.:D

  24. Chicago beats NYC hands down on most things----dogs, pizza AND baseball! Go Cubbies!
