The Bug is an amazing piece of machinery, surely not to be out-engineered or out-designed anytime soon, and some kind of pinnacle of automotive engineering.

1001 HP, 300 MPH. Not, like, PRACtical or anything. At top speed, the tires last 13 minutes...but the fuel only lasts 12. But there you go.

It's absolutely worthy in every way of its namesake and heritage, too.

Have moved on from muscle cars, now I'm into couch potato cars. Here's my 1979 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. It's nearly NOS with 7,900 original miles, still has factory sparkplugs and wires. And yes, she's got an 8-Track player!

That's a sweet Caddy. I'm a couch tater too.

My current "horse" is a '99 Town Car. Unless it gets totalled too, I'll drive it forever.

Only have 68K on it now, but it's a dailey driver and sales car.

Love those couches on wheels.

....I must be gettin' old 'cause that Caddy does look sweet!!! Plus i've turned into a couch tater as well in my Z-71 Tahoe....but, I do have a MOPAR R/T in the garage to cover the muscle side of things!

It has a 425c.i V8, last of the Caddy big blocks. It's not a rocket, but will move out. It also has a modified Chevy "Monte Carlo SS/Buick Grand National" style custom exhaust system with Caprice "police car" mufflers. Sounds just right, and flows quite freely, but not too loud. The '77-'79 full size Caddys were slightly smaller and nearly a thousand pounds lighter than previous Caddy models. Much better on gas, 20+ on the open highway.

The 8-track usually has my homemade tape "Cadillac Tracks", which is a collection of Cadillac related songs.

Yetto The Packard Hawk was done for 1 year only in 1956 and had the ugliest catfish snout you've ever seen. Studes were built in South Bend till '63, Canada till '66. Avanti II's were always built in the Bend till the late '80's, then, moved to Ohio (Van Wert, I think, where the Avanti bodies were originally made, and where the earlier Vettes were made). The 289 is a Studebaker engine used till 1964, then, the Canadian Studes used Chevy 350's. Both of my grandfathers, most of my uncles and my dad all worked at the South Bend plant---just went by it a week ago---it's almost all been torn down. The town's never really recovered.

When the Subaru plant went in in LaFayette, IN, they made the state take down the "Bataan Memorial Highway" sign off of Indiana 38.

We too have a '99 Town Car in white that we bought new. It also has only 68,000 miles but it is no longer a daily driver. We also have a '98 Saturn that my wife drives back and forth to work because it gets 35mpg. We love the Town Car as it is so quiet and rides like a magic carpet.

Wow Bear. I wish that I could say I got mine when it was new, but I'm not complaining

Love the "front end" of the '98-'02's. After that, they lost something IMO.
