Yes indeed, I bought a King Doublebass Slap King through Chuck on the rockabillybass.com boards. We shipped it Overnight Priority. Fed Ex had this bass in their hands for less than 24 hours, and in that time they managed to drop it. Which tore the fabric on the King hardshell case, ripped off one of the plastic feet, and separated the neck from the body right on the glue joint. When that gave way the tension from the strings caused the neck to snap down and put a ding and a chip in the sounding board with the Schaller mag pickup mounted on the fingerboard. I'm not sure what to say here.....those are the facts of it all. Needless to say I'm pretty heart broken, and determined to kick ass too. Fed Ex ass to be specific. But geez....it's just....why? Don't these people know how to do Their Jobs?? Fuck. I'm so beyond being mad though.....I just want this beautiful instrument fixed and back to being what it should be, My King Doublebass Slap King.

The other thing about all this that bugs me is that Jeff O(h I'm not such a jerk) was nice enough to let me ship the bass to his house and save on shipping. I was going to be in his area yesterday to see Stray Cats. Anyway, it just sucks that this had to happen, and Jeff had to be the bearer of bad news. No one deserves that, it should have been all on my head to bear alone. Oh well.
A very public "Thank you!" To Jeff O!
And yeah jetbunny, a King hardshell case, so it fit perfectly. And they just destroyed the case andthe bass. Shitass this blows....

That is heartbreaking news Matt. I know you have been looking forward to getting that bass. All that sacrifice got you so far was a broken bass.

How the hell did they DO that??? Ran over it with a truck? In a hardshell case, you need to SMACK that thing HARD to get to this result...
Ugly ugly ugly indeed...
What 's the case look like?

Jeez! How the hell did they manage to do that? These basses are made to stand on and take tons of abuse. Since it's a big object.........do they have a monster truck or something?

Should've went with Bax global! They are a lot more careful it seems to me than fredex! Anyway, man that really really sucks! So it was in the case and they still did that? Must had dropped it from a 12 story window or maybe they delivered it to Jeff's house by air with no parachute? Man, I am pissed for you, but as long as you get a new one with a hotrod sparkle paintjob for free, I am cool wtih that! Good luck and keep us posted!

Matt, I feel terrible for you. No doubt, this is a crime. I can't imagine what they did to cause that kind of damge. I hope you get satisfaction at the end of all this, somehow.
I have a similar horror story with an amp head. UPS ruled it was improperly packed and I was left with a cabinet and some spare parts.
Anymore when you are buying gear you have to decide if it isn't worth it to buy locally, even if the price is a bit more.
I count my blessings that I have one of the sponsors just a few hours away.

Here's a question I'll answer. It was shipped in a hardshell case, custom made by King Doublebass for their instruments, the case was wrapped in several layers of saran wrap to keep it clean. The case itself is made of plywood and kevlar. And its huge, all kinds of cushion and room to absorb impacts. On the bottom of the case it has two plastic feet on the front that hold it upright. These plastic feet are screwed into the plywood with two screws. Where they dropped it the plastic foot was ripped out, screws and all. They didn't just drop this....something else happened. But for the life of me I can't see what they did to make this happen. The saran wrap that would have been right over this ripped out foot is all torn and dirty. The fabric around the foot is torn too. It just plain got f*cked up.... Anyway, it was insured out the ass....so I'm gonna get something out of this. And if not, well, how much bad publicity are they getting here?????

Stay on them, Matt. I had an incident and it was not until I WENT Off that they took care of it. Words like negligent, fraud, bad faith and my lawyer said xyz, all get their attention. Tell them you use it for your lively hood and their negligence is costing you money.
If you get nowhere within a day or two, go to corporate, and start there as well. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
You must be bummed.
Good luck.

It's sad that the bass got bashed but I think shipping it just in its hardshell case was a bit risky. Hardshell cases are to get instruments to gigs, not for conveyor belts and delivery trucks. I think if it had been packed is a box or in a crate it may have fared better.
Just my 2 cents.......
