cool radio show about Gretsch, host Marshall Crenshaw

  1. Hi all. Sorry if this has been posted already, but here's a link to a pretty cool radio show, The Bottomless Pit, on WFUV, hosted by Marshall Crenshaw. It's a tribute to our favorite guitar, about an hour long.

It ran 6/02/2012, so click on that link. It's got great archival stuff and lots of cool songs.

  2. Thanks for the tip off, I only wish it was on podcast, I'm going to be stuck in a car for four hours tomorrow and that would do nicely to help pass the time. Can't wait to hear it in full, American radio always sounds so exotic to a Brit like me... :)

  3. Oh man, that's awesome. Thanks for the link!

  4. Big fan of the Marshall. Love the intro to Fantastic Planet of Love.

He also played Buddy Holly in La Bamba, and nailed it.

  5. I love Marshall, here's some vid of him playing a Duo Jet. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

  6. just got a chance to hear this..the featureless media player wfuv uses makes listening all the way through your only option..but well worth it..crenshaw covers a lot of gretsch players, from the well known to the fairly obscure...and of course covers all the local faves like duane, setzer and billy z...a great listen..don't miss it..it won't be available too long

    cheers

  7. pretty cool clip, should be more guitar related radio programs ,every one has one, or knows somebody who does..

  8. I wrote Marshall and told him about Gretsch Day at StreetSounds and a bit about things here. Here's what he said:

"Wow!! I didn't hear/know anything about that until right now..
Thanks for the note; I've gotten more mail about the Gretsch show than about any other. I didn't know it would stir people up but it really did, and I'm glad.. Thanks for listening, MC"

  9. Wow. Thanks for posting and thanks for the Wild One clip, silverjetstaff. I love that era of Marshal playing with his brother Rob. Fun!

  10. Marshall is my favorite artist ever. I got to see him play with the Bottle Rockets as his backing band last year and it was incredible. He used Gretschs a lot on his 3rd album. I think GE Smith gave him the Firebird Duo Jet he plays in the video.

  11. Gretsch and Marshall Crenshaw — what's not to like?

Really enjoying this. Just had an ad for someone's music lessons — "in just ten lessons you can play The Lonely One just like Duane Eddy"!

Now we've got Bo's Roadrunner. Gretsch all the way at the moment — keep 'em coming, Mr Crenshaw.

Edit: Woooo! — Jimmie Webster playing Caravan.
