"BATTLESHIP" the movie

The family just got home from seeing "BATTLESHIP". I really liked it. Typical, predictable alien invasion movie, but the special effects and the acting were quite good. It is definitely one I would recommend seeing on the big screen. I'd give it four out of five stars.

I though Avengers was good...but Battleship had great special affects, great aliens, and great alien weapons (the wheels, anyone who has seen it will know what I am talking about, were truly new and truly incredible).

5/25/12 for us too, but I'm not sure of the time. The kids have been taking Janice and I to the movies every week this month. It has been a blast.

Looks like you guys just picked my next movie outing.

I'm with you guys it was great. I did like The Avengers as Jeff said was good but Battleship was even better.
It was excellent. At times in The Avengers there were some slow spots that got a bit almost boring, not a boring movie but some spots almost got that way but Battleship was always exciting.

Spartanman
I agree... Avengers was great movie. However, some of the scenes could have been edited a little more. I thought the fight in the forest between Thor and Ironman was about 2 minutes too long.
I am looking forward to MIB3 as well.

Am I the only one tired of 3d effect animated monster/alien/robot movies?
I saw the Avengers, and although I know it was entertaining, I wasn't blown away, like the rest of my family, by it.
One day Hollywood will blow everyone's mind with a movie that has a great script and no special effects.
Nah, they won't.

No, you're not. I've largely given up going to the cinema.
This week, I went to see Duane Eddy, Avenue Q, and my nephew boxing (he won). While none of these featured explosions, CGI, or required 3d glasses, I don't think the cinema had any fare that could have come close.

Yup, these hollywood blockbusters leave me cold. The best film I've seen recently, in fact I'd say the funniest since Spinal Tap, is a film called "Four Lions" a black comedy about incompetent suicide bombers

crowbone, I'm on the fence about this one. If the 3D effect movie has a good story then I'm in. I thought the Avengers was a really good movie but agree that some of the scenes were a little bit too long. Yes the fighting was cool but too long at times. I have to agree with Spartanman on this.
This Battleship movie had some great effects but the story was good.
If you want to see a really good movie without CGI or other effects watch Lucky One. Really good movie. It's currently in the theaters.
Honestly I think that this Battleship movie was at times disturbing though. The thought of extra terrestrials invading the earth the scenes that showed such a violent battle between us and them.
Have you noticed so many recent movies are about ETs and things of that nature. Good Alien, Bad Alien type of movies. Why? More than ever at one time.

They shot a lot of Battleship here in Baton Rouge at Celtic Studios.
Hadn't seen it yet, but they shot some bar scenes at a bar right down the street from us. Most of the interior shots were done on a sound stage at Celtic.
Will probably go see it this afternoon.

sroux, all this time I thought it was filmed in Hawaii since it took place at Pearl Harbor and other Island locations.
Louisiana was or is called stunt man country. Do you know why? I have a friend who is a movie producer and director in Hollywood and he explained it to me.

Yeah, the club they used is a club we play frequently.
Usually it's a low key neighborhood blues bar, but they decked it out as a tiki bar for filming. After they were finished filming they spruced the place up and it looks better than it did before.
I would assume because of all of the filming here that stunt men are doing well here?

Yep you are correct sroux. He was making movie so I helped him get some prop from a stunt man he knew. We went to this guy's home here in the Los Angeles area and he asked him why he wasn't working in stunt man country and he said because he didn't want to move to Louisiana. So later I asked my friend why it was called stunt man country and he said because when the movie industry started there at first they would fly stunt men down there and pay for their lodging and expenses but after years of establishing a filming industry there the movie companies would no longer pay to have stunt men travel down there. Because of this many stunt men moved there permanently so they could be stunt men in the movies. I did not know so much filming went on down there but apparently they did in order to have all these stunt men move there permanently.

That's cool that you went to school with a guy who became an actor. I went to elementary school and high school with a writer who wrote Under Siege and a few other movies and TV shows. A friend who I worked with once wrote some TV shows too.

Yeah, Jeff Daniels not only is from Michigan I think he still has his primary residence there although maybe part of the year he might live near Hollywood. He's a big time acoustic guitar fan and player. Dave Coulier, yes Full House. Him and Uncle Jess.

Jeff's kids go to school here...I used to see Marshall Mathers, Kid Rock, Jack White and Ted Nugent all the time, too.
Thank goodness they all hit it big and moved away.

Hopefully these "friends" of yours were either on the right side of the law or if they were not, you did not meet them on the "inside" if you know what I mean.
