Other Players

On this day.

On this day in 1960 the music world lost this great musician in a terrible car accident. If the traffic light had of been red he would probably be still amongst us. Eddie Cochran, never to be forgotten.

Eddie died too young, there's no getting around it. But a few other noteworthy musical things happened on this day too:

1882 - Composer and pianist Artur Schnabel was born.

1948 - Keyboard maestro Jan Hammer was born.

1964 - The FBI lab reported that it could not determine the lyrics to "Louie Louie."

1964 - Them made their first concert appearance.

1967 - Songwriter Liz Phair was born.

1969 - The Band played its first concert as an independent group (at Winterland in San Francisco).

1970 - Johnny Cash performed at the White House at the invitation of President Richard M. Nixon. He played "A Boy Named Sue."

1980 - Bob Marley and the Wailers performed as the official guests of State at Zimbabwe's Independence festival. (some bands perform at the grand opening of shopping malls. Bob Marley and the Wailers played at the grand opening of a country!)

2015 - John Coltrane was awarded a posthumous Special Citation by the Pulitzer Prize board.
