Do U know T.K.SMITH?? U should!

27

BIG fan of TK Smith! I always preferred Big Sandy & the Fly-Rite Trio with TK on guitar over the Fly-Rite Boys with Ashley. I remember sitting with the first two albums, trying to learn all the guitar solos. Geeky maybe, but that's how I learnt how to play rockabilly guitar... ;-)

And how's it sound, Herr Tavo?

I like how you start a thread about Tim polecat or TK Smith and they just show up.

Who should we go after next?

Steve Howe

Chet was one of his main inspirations, you know. Yeah, and there's a lot of fingerpicking. AND he uses fuzzzzy pedals, which YOU like. And he played hollowbodies.

He was playing roots music, and the other guys just overdubbed prog parts. Not Steve's fault.

But I shouldn't have brought up Steve Hose in TK Smith's thread. I apologize. TK, I'm sorry.

31

Much as I sort of agree with Tavo's sentiments, if the worst thing that ever happened to you as a guitarist was getting lumped in with Steve Howe, I'd say you're doing ok.

32

Very cool to have T.K. Smith post here. My awareness of Mr. Smith goes back a few years, and his playing really strikes a chord with me. I just wish the "Smith's Ranch Boys" recordings were more readily available.

If I like Santana does that mean I condone prog rock?

34

Well...not really. I mean, if that's an opening of your door to further enlightenment, I'll take it. But is Santana prog? You know better.

Thats as far as I go, a Hammond B-3 and a set of congas. ..and only when he was using P-90s

You like both U2 AND Santana?!? I'm worried 'bout you, Tavo... :P ;-)

I'm lovin this Lollar CC neck pickup with flatwound 13s. Now I'm really curious about the blade pkup TK is coming out with.

40

hey tavo, did you score one of tk's pickups?..anxious to hear it vs. lollar cc...two beauties

cheers

41

uhm the lollar neck was a buck fifty. the TK is $340!! I'm trying to sell off my lollar 50s p-90 and the CC tele bridge pkup first.

42

yeah, well before tk started winding his own, he was using fred stuarts...and they were around 350$ a few years back already

Link...

cheers

44

TK is also one of my absolute faves, I also prefer his playing on the first 2 Big Sandy and the Fly Rite Trio albums to the later era Big Sandy and the Fly Rite Boys. I really loved seeing Ashley play live and on the youtube live clips I've seen, but on the Big Sandy albums I'm always wanting more from him. My favorite work from Ashley is the rare and hard to find Ramblin James disc, on there he cuts loose and sounds a bit like Grady Martin.

nice!!...spectrasonic huh...interesting

looking forward to results

cheers

its a near perfect fit if you think about it from a bigsby guitar standpoint.. deep routed alder body with a super thin maple top. I've already got a supertron in the bridge with a coil split to get a strange CC variant with a blender pot. I'm kinda giddy about the whole thing.
