Check out my buddy's TJ's new band, the Modern Don Juans, on myspace : "The Modern Don Juans are a collaboration of four rockers who have been in some of the best modern rockabilly bands in todays scene. Living in Austin, Texas, this Lone Star concoction of Rockabilly, Blues, and all that is rockin' includes Tony Estrada (Star Mountain Dreamers), Bobby Trimble (Big Sandy & his Fly Rite Boys), Tjarko Jeen (Ronnie Dawson), Todd Wulfmeyer (Marti Brom & her Jet Tone Boys)."

I've seen/opened for Bobby and Tjarko on a few occasions. High quality players both. Love that snare drum cocked back like and oldtime jazzer.

Definitely turned me on to the idea of drop D tuning. That whole album sounds so big and fat.

On the myspace tunes, TJ sounds like Grady Martin on those Johnny Carrol records. Great tone. Different than I remember, but that was many years ago.

tjarko cops a few of those grady/carrol licks for sure. other than his remarkable technique/hands ( 95% of it), the tone is from a '56 duojet thru a '64 vox ac30 copper panel with original blues.

Is there a tour schedule set for these fellas after Espana? Maybe they could bring those seatsniffers down here on a headlining gig, or something. That'd be a heck of a show.
