Since I heard that "Ballad of Cable Hogue" song from Calexico I've been trying to find some more of that baritone kinda stuff, but cannot really seem to find anything I like. (Checked the artists mentioned in the Wikipedia article... meh...) Would you guys happen to know who plays that twangy desolate desert-kinda music?
Dave Gonzales (ex-Paladins) plays a baritone on the Hacienda Bros. "Railed" from their first CD. (Unfortunately, the rest of the CD is too "country" for me.)
Checked some of their stuff. I really like the Paladins, but this Hacienda Brothers stuff is too country for me too. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Johnny Horton - Honky Tonk Hardwood Floor features Grady Martin just slaughtering the bari. Lots of George Jones (Race is On) too. Don Rich on some Buck Owens records.
Lots of the "truckin" country stuff has Bari on it as does some of the Bakersfield stuff.
Check out Cliff Richard's solo stuff on youtube as well. He lays down some cool Bari instros.
If you're into Baritone instrumentals, try to find Duane Eddy's "Cottonmouth", it doesn't get much better IMO.
René Hall plays plenty of Baritone on a lot of Del-fi releases, check the Ritchie Valens and Chan Romero stuff (Valens' version of "Bony Moronie" has a killer Danelectro tone/riff on it!)
And there's VIncent Bell playing his Dano on the "twin peaks" theme, of course, and plenty of Dano action on some Mancini things - "shot in the dark" has a nice six-string bass line on it.

Jack Nitzsche's "The Lonely Surfer" album has a lot of cool baritone on it. More of a combo of surf and easy listening though.

After he got his Dano, Duane recorded an album of tunes using that guitar. The cover was shot in Phoenix, at Dobbins Point, in South Mountain Park.
Deke Dickerson plays a lot of Bari. Check him out!

well....Calexico is the best known for that Morricone sound, but you might also try Friends of Dean Martinez and Giant Sand. If I were interested in modern "spaghetti western" music, I might have to look here. Just a thought.
There's a really funny story about Glen borrowing Carol Kaye's baritone for Wichita Lineman and never returning it. Pissed off to this day about it.

Wha? is right. I meant Jet Harris. I don't know why I wrote Cliff Richard. I think my brain is starting to mix things up as I get older.
The connection is totally understandable, as Jet Harris was one of the original Shadows, Cliff's group.
