Great news!
$315 without hearing how they sound???
I'm waiting on the sound clips...
You won't get much out of TVs soundclips and I think there was someone who was holding on to some clips at winter NAMM. If those are released I think you would have something better to judge them by.
What I've found with most of his clips is just a comparison between the pickups. You can kind of get the tonal differences, but they don't really relate to the real world all that well. My powertron plus and Classic don't really sound (to me) much like the clips, but I can see the differences. I don't base much on audio clips, you never know exactly what all the conditions are, so it's impossible to judge anything fully on internet sound clips. I base my pickup purchases on comments and reviews of others usually, which with TV are always glowing.
i will wait on clips as well. just going on the past with other tv pickup clips, the clips most likely won't feature the pickups performing the type of music they established their fame from.
70's classic rock guy licks through a little over driven amp will not do them much justice with the crowd who create the demand for them.
If it's OK with Tom and Proteus (Tim was playing on the recording I made), I'll find 'em and post 'em (in the interest of not overpromising, the quality of the recording may not do the pickups justice; I can say, though, that played through a Billy Zoom amp, they sounded fabulous). They asked me not to post them at the time, but if they've changed their minds, cool.
I got tired of waiting and bought Fralin P-90s for my Tele, but hmmm, these are tempting me again.

Given how complex & weird Dynas are, did anyone really think they were going to be a small fraction of the price of Duncans? If the Duncans are still $400 a set, I think a product that has TV's seal o' goodness and a 25% off coupon is a pretty fair gamble.
In any event, I'm trying to order a set for my 6128-DSV, but the TVJ/PayPal bit has gone flakey & won't process the payment. Denied!
I'd use a CC, but I just sold 2 guitars -- otherwise I could not swing these right now!
In any event -- I WILL make clips, have no fear.
Actually, you should probably be afraid. Very afraid.
;)
Hopefully he will offer a Filter or humbucker mount too eventually.
I don't think that price is high by any means.
Frank, can you link me to the clips before posting?
I'd like to monitor how embarrassing my playing was.
I don't have any memory now of what I played. It was clean through the amp, I'm sure, may have been a bit fingerpicky.
The guitar was one of TV's light solidbodies; I can't say from direct experience how that compares to a Jet or a full hollowbody.
I did tell Tom I wanted a set...have to see what's happening with that. No question in my mind they'll be the real thing.
Hi,
I've swapped the Dynasonics in my Country Club for TV Jones Super'Trons and never looked back. The magnets of Dynsasonic-style pickups just pull too strong on the strings and of course they have singlecoils noisefloor.
The Super'Trons deliver great growl with crunch, superb country in the bridge and middle (great funk-rhythmsounds here, too) and great jazz sounds in the neck-position (Chet knew why he wanted a Supertron in the neck). Dirty you also get great bluessounds in this position.
On one of Brian Setzers Orchestra live DVDs he playes a trio-set in the middle of the gig featuring those rockier rockabilly songs with a guitar equiped with Supertrons, listen to that, great sounds from the bridge-pickup...
Cheers, Chris
drmilktruck, TV Jones told me they were working on other pickup mounting options other than the two that will be in the initial release, but the priority right now was to get the initial pickups out to people.
As for the price, I think it's just right, other boutique pickup brands sell less complicated pickup designs for a lot more. Since these are TV Jones pickups, the quality will no doubt be of the highest, like we have come to expect from all his products.
I like the look of his pickup menu on the site now, all the Gretsch pickups are present, full circle
Yeah these look very cool. I just don't have a guitar that they will work in at the moment. If I still had my 6120DSV they would be on order.
I'm thinking of getting Classics for my 5120, selling the TVs in my 5129 and getting a set of these. I think that would cure my Dyna GAS enough for my to focus on the 6118-120 I really want.
Has anyone done a Dyna bridge with a Classic neck? My Powertron Plus isn't what I'd hope it would be, so I'm looking into something else. Maybe that would be a good combo...
Any sound clip would be better than none for me to pull the trigger. Ideally, a clean clip from someone who already plays Dyna's (know anyone???) with a bit of narration or explanation would go a long way. Obviously, Proteus was impressed enough to order them. I am asking " In what way?".
I have to know what the tone & noise floor improvement from what I already have would be to get excited enough to make the change.
Yes, Tim, of course you can listen to them first (assuming I can find where I put them; January seems like so long ago).

My biggest problem is the fact that I definately love the dynas in my 6120. I can't really see room for improvement.
But now I'm considering these for my tele project... a thinline with Bigsby and Dynas in the neck.
Anyone know if these will fit in a 5122?
If you contact Setzer he can make an adapter plate to make dyna sized pups fit in an HB hole. Not sure about the magnet clearance though as most have put DeArmond 2000s or 2Ks in those plates.
