Raising Dearmond 2000s?

1

So, not being overly familiar with Gretsch pickups and guitars (even though I own two), I have been reading and reading here at the the Gretsch Pages about all things Gretsch.

As I said, I have two Gretsches, a 5127 with Dearmond 2000's and a 6129tls with HS Filters. I love them both, the 5127 sounds very good, but.... It has less volume output than most, no probably all, of my other guitars, not significantly, but sometimes when I hit the stage with it, the difference makes it a PITA.

I never use my LP live, partly due to it's 9+ lbs weight, but mostly because it is hugely louder than every other guitar I own... like stupid louder. Makes it impossible to play two different guitars in a set without fiddling with the amp or keeping the volume knob on the LP at 3.... I like 5127 more than my LP and want to keep using it live.

So, would raising them up with shims make them louder? And if so, does anybody know if regular dyna shims would fit? OR, should I mess with pole height. The guitar is stock (other than strings and a Chet arm).

I've had it for four years or so now... And play it all the stinking time. I am playing live more often now, and really wan to keep the Electromatic in the live set. The Dearmonds with flat wounds into my Vibroverb just sound so dang good!

Yeah regular Dyna shims would work, but I'd suggest getting a cheap mousepad and cutting shims out of that. I did that with my 5129 when I put Dynas in it, and it works great, and gives me some adjustment.

Another option would be to get a boost or EQ pedal and mark the volume settings for each guitar, then when you switch instruments you just have to roll one knob to match volume.
