Pickups

Minihums vs. Filters

26

Not to be outdone, here’s my battle scarred ‘73 warhorse ... strung with GHS Boomer 10’s

The main difference is that Mini Humbuckers are good sounding pickups.

For me this is true. Filters seem to go from sounding like a blanket is over the amp to scratchy ... in my hands , with my amps.

But then I listen to recordings of others using them and they sound great!

I think Brian Setzer is an amazing guitarist, but his tone still reminds me of an accordion.

I mean, the old joke is "what do you throw a drowning accordion player? His amp".

34

Klezmer, Tarantello, Tango, Saltarello, Zydeco ... all go better with accordion

35

Interesting, because I think Setzer's tone is the BEST Filtertron tone I've ever heard. Well, his and Paul Pigat's Falcon. Malcom gets an honorable mention. Chet does NOT.

I played a friends Firebird years ago and really liked the mini's on it. Sorta forgot about it,now one more I need!

37

firebird pups are a very different design than standard gibby mini-hums... very bright and gritty

cheers
