hey everyone.last week i was all set to order my tv jones, but out shopping this weekend, at my local music shop, i found a pair of gretsch filtertrons, for 50bucks each. i bought them. 100 for two, much more reasonable than the tvs. however, i wont be able to mount them in my 5120. can i turn this into a english mount, and then just install them as i would the tv jones? would that be my best bet? and if so, how can i make my own english mount? thanks guys

Wow, I think that's going to be tricky. I might even think there might a false economy going on...

English mount should work. Ripley makes adapters too as I recall.

From my understanding (I'm about to do the same as soon as I have the $$$)
You'll need either ripleys mounts, or to make your own And you'll need (from tv jones) pickup rings, 3 ring risers and all the correct size screws

I bought a set of gold HS (Gretsch) Filters a couple of years ago, and the adapter from Ripley. The pickups came with the screws (I think I remember that right), and I got the bezels from Black Rider.
The only thing that came from TVJ was a master switch/tone switch harness. But they've gone way up now. If I were to do it again, I'd buy a harness from RIC (USA made, all good pots) for between $35-$65 depending on which one you want.

It is possible to mount Filters into the stock HB rings provided they are the 2 screw variety and not the newer 3 screw version. You can always drill them and hide the extra holes under the pickguard if necessary.
I do sell a kit to mount Gretsch Filters as English Mount, and they are relatively easy to make if you're handy. My first version was made with a strat backplate, some wood screws, and a razor knife. They're a little more sophisticated now...
And again, thanks for the plug guys!

Installing Filter'trons in a 5120 is a piece of cake...no worries dude. Do a search here at GDP. Plenty of us have done this exact mod. Very inexpensive if you already have the pickups.
As Ripley says he has got the kit ready and available for ya.

on my 5122 i made an English Mount adaptor ,,, and on my 5120 i went standard filtertrons ,,, i wish i had gone that way on the 5122 also ,,,, but if you go to the Electromatic section and under the thread "Mutes" you can see the pickup cavity on my 5120 , i just used filler blocks it was mega easy

I have a set that Cory made and they are perfect.
You can get Gibson style Filter'Tron bezels from TVJ. They come in black and cream but you'll have to arch them yourself and they're only $5 each.
