Whats a 67 SG Jr worth?

2

in cherry, Vintage Guitar rates that guitar as $1800 to $2200. In white, $2500 to $3000.

That would probably be in original condition, though, so you'll want to be sure - check the guitar thoroughly for changes (remove all cover plates) and look for breaks, especially around the headstock, heel and output jack.

Also, Elderly shows a no-longer-available version (so no price shown) of that guitar with the same open-back strip gears; some had Kluson strips.

Here's the one at Elderly: http://www.elderly.com/vint...

Man that is a good deal, if there isn't anything wrong with it. I may have to drive up from Kingston and check it out

5

Thanks for the info guys. I sent him an email, hopefully I'll get a chance to check it out.

i know that in recent years those sg jrs have fallen in price. i befriended the owner of my local guitar shop and recently he asked me to repaint his abused 62 sg jr. he almost sold it to a guy for 500 bucks. he says that repainted with new parts (original parts are gone) he would be lucky to get 1000. but its his personal guitar so it doesnt concern him much yet.

7

Looks like I'll be going to check it out tomorrow.

8

Wow, that is a good price and a very cool guitar.
The screws on the pick guard aren't original. And I think the tuners might be replacements. I love those juniors!

9

Did juniors ever come with a vibrato unit? I don't think that's original.

Still....old wood, old P90.....it's the tone that matters.

10

Ratrod,
I think around '65 they started offering the juniors with vibrato units.

11

Danman, I've seen those tuners on SG of that vintage, pretty ugly I know but I think they're original. That's a good price but they have notoriously delicate necks, don't balance well on a strap (headstock heavy) & never sounded as good as Les Paul Juniors (not enough body wood) Look cool though.

12

Hey Tony,
They had those tuners? Thanks, I didnt know that.
You are right about the delicate necks and the balance. Still they sound great I think. But you are right: The 50's juniors sound better. I have two and I love them.

Hah, my '56.Photobucket & a '59,Photobucket

Thinking back a big-guard SG jnr with vibrola was the first Gibson I ever played when I was about 14. The guitarist in my older brothers band had one & he let me have a go. I remember it had a really fat neck, very unusual for that period. Regarding those tuners, Gibson must have bought a job lot around that period & used them up pretty quickly. I saw an SG special in Angel Guitars which had them & when I pointed them out Andy Hackett assured me they were stock.

15

Hi Tony,
Nice guitars!
Here's my '55 and my beat up '59 that was previously owned by DeeDee Ramone. I love these guitars!

That Vibrola is original(not as good as a Bigsby)and also those cheap tuners. It's a fair price from a shop. The only problem could be the narrower neck than usual at the nut(from end 65 to 68). Good to have a P-90, although these(with the clear plastic on the bobbin) don't sound as good as those prior 65).

17

Nice guitar... if the neck is solid and all that, yeah. decent deal. I'd worry less about the vibrola and more about the tuners. those look like inexpensive replacements -changing them out not a biggie.

very cool.

Well I got it for $950. So far it plays and sounds fantastic. This is my first vintage guitar and my first guitar with a P90. It seems to be all original except the screws in the pick guard and possibly the bridge posts(painted black). Actually I noticed both the bridge posts and the pickup pole screws are painted black.

19

Congratulations! You got yourself a great guitar!
