Billy, that thing is so sweet! I had saved the TNM site as a fav a couple of years ago. I'd always been interested in the vintage examples he is copying.
How do the pickups compare to the old Carvins you got from me? I never had a chance to hear them on anything.
The old ones are better but the new ones are pretty good. The old ones were pretty inconsistent. But when you get a good one, whew! The ones I got from you were rewound right?

The Carvin AP6 (adjustable pole pieces) and AP1 (Slug Pole pieces) were really the only aftermarket pickups around during he 50's. They have a really nice sort of Hi-Fi sound not like a P90 really more like a Tele Pickup but without the shearing highs (at least to my ears) ANyhoo, Semi Mosely used them on his earliest guitars, if you listen to Joe Maphis or Larry Collins you are hearing Carvins. A really cool sound as far as I'm concerned.

Hey there, Just a word about the pickups. When I started remaking these doubleneck guitars. I bought 2 early sixty's Carvin guitars to harvest the pickups for sn003. They all checked out at between 4.0 and 4.6 imp. Really low. The ones I now use made by Bob Shade spec out at about 8.2. Still considered mild by today's standard. To me they sound very close to the originals. But there still maybe some sort of 'mojo' accredited to the low impedance of the originals. As noted earlier, the Carvin pickups varied broadly. The originals on Deke's guitar are in the mid 6's. So you never know without a meter.

Billy, I've got to say that the video of your two kids playing Rumble is probably the best thing I've seen on youtube! The little one cracked me up with his drumming. Great stuff!
